WFC Task Force Assembled

By Editorial Staff

In September, the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) announced its intention to establish a Task Force on Chiropractic Identity, designed to "direct and facilitate an inclusive and comprehensive international consultation with members of the profession and other relevant parties on the public identity of the chiropractic profession." As we go to press, the federation has announced that it has completed its selection process, allowing the task force to begin work on enhancing the role and purpose of the chiropractic profession in the eyes of the general public.

The task force is comprised of 40 members (34 doctors of chiropractic, one chiropractic student and five laypersons) and is chaired by three of the profession's most respected statesmen: Dr. Paul Carey, president of the WFC and past president of the Canadian Chiropractic Association; Dr. Gerard Clum, WFC second vice president and president of Life Chiropractic College West; and Dr. Peter Dixon, president of the European Chiropractors' Union and a past president of the British Chiropractic Association. It features residents of 14 countries and graduates of 13 chiropractic colleges, providing broad representation from six continents and nearly every facet of the chiropractic profession.

The task force's first objective is to review past surveys and research related to chiropractic identity. On Feb. 26-28, 2004, the task force will meet at Life Chiropractic College West to approve methods and procedures to be used for an electronic survey, which will be sent to all chiropractors worldwide between April and June 2004. Results of the survey will be presented at the WFC's 8th Biennial Assembly in Sydney, Australia in June 2005.
