ISSLS members are multidisciplinary health care practitioners and researchers from around the world. Membership is limited to only 250 members worldwide. The goal of the society is to advance lumbrospinal research.
Over 700 people attended the conference, with approximately 300 abstracts presented. Activator Methods had two abstracts accepted for "special" poster presentation. This is a format inwhich small groups of 30 or so people listen to a three-minute presentation and then have five minutes to ask questions. Dr. Fuhr's presentation concerned electromyographic responses to Activator adjustments.
In other related news, the Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique textbook has been translated into Japanese. Dr. Yukinobu Yasui began the translation work over two years ago. He recruited Dr. Kiyoji Sudo and several other colleagues to assist him in completing this difficult project. To the knowledge of the translators, this is the first major chiropractic textbook translated into Japanese.
Canadian Chiropractic Scientific Symposium - Call for Abstracts
The 2nd Canadian Chiropractic Scientific Symposium will be held Oct 21-22, 2000 at the Canadian Memorial College of Chiropractic (CMCC) in Toronto, Ontario. The symposium will be hosted by the Consortium of Canadian Chiropractic Research Centers, which is comprised of CMCC; University of Waterloo; University of Alberta; University of Calgary; Universite du Quebec ö Montreal; and the Institute for Work and Health (Toronto).

Foot Levelers on CNBC
On June 25 at 1:30 p.m., Foot Levelers, Inc., will be featured in a segment on CNBC's "Today's Health" program, hosted by television and film star Robert Urich. "Walk Right, Feel Right" will be a five-minute segment focusing on orthotics and chiropractic.
CNBC boasts over 68 million viewers. The segment will be placed on Video News Release, a service used by 98 percent of the television newsrooms in the country, with the chance to be featured again by local television stations.
"Everything we're doing, including the television segment, is geared toward getting patients to the doctors," said Kent Greenawalt, president of Foot Levelers.
Pro-Am Golf Extravaganza
Doctors from 25 states, Canada and as far as Japan came to Charlotte, NC on April 28 through May 1 to participate in the first Foot Levelers Chiropractic Pro-Am Golf Tournament. The event, co-sponsored by the North Carolina Chiropractic Association, included three days of license-renewal seminars, followed by the opportunity for the chiropractors to play golf with senior PGA pros.
The license renewal speakers included Drs. Terry Yochum (radiology); John Hylandan (rehabilitation); Kirk Lee (sports injuries among adolescents); Paul Jaskoviak (applied physiotherapy); William Austin (lower extremity biomechanics and orthotics); René Espy (subluxation); John Danchick (golf injuries and their treatments); Mark Charrette, (lower extremity adjusting); D.A. Versendaal (nutrition); and K.S.J. Murkowski, (compensation).
Educational sponsors for the seminars were Cleveland Chiropractic College, Northwestern Health Sciences University, and Parker College of Chiropractic.
Before the tournament, senior PGA pros Bruce Summerhays and Dana Quigley held a clinic for the doctors. Summerhays stressed the importance of "full foot balance" in the golf swing.
The chiropractors had a full day of golf, followed by an awards ceremony in which Foot Levelers President Kent Greenawalt presented the runner-up and championship teams with engraved plaques.
The winning foursome of the Pro-Am was Dr. Steve McAreary, Dr. Tom Smith, Yoshinori Okuda, and Darrell Hansen. Pros Roy Vucinich and Bruce Summerhays shared playing time on the course with the winners.
CCE Commission on Accreditation Welcomes New Members
SCOTTSDALE, AZ - New electees to the CCE Board of Directors are:

New President of Iowa Chiropractic Society
Dr. Mark Niles is the new president of the Iowa Chiropractic Society (ICS) for the 2000-2001 term. Dr. Niles, a 1982 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, has been in practice in Tipton for 17 years and a member of the ICS since 1991. The immediate past president of the ICS is Dr. Jennifer Rasmussen of Cedar Falls.
