Life Rugby Team Reaches Final Four in National Championships

By Editorial Staff
With 1,262 teams vying for the U.S. Rugby National Club Championship, the undefeated Life College Rugby Club (35-0) made it to the final four.

Competing in the top half of the semi-finals, the Life Eagles went to battle against defending national champion Old Mission Beach Athletic Club May 15 before 2,000 fans at Winnemac Stadium in Chicago.

Life was defeated 30-16.

The Eagles got in a hole early, down 20-3 at half-time, but rallied in the second half to outscore the national champions 13-10. "We're real proud of this team," said Life Coach Mel Smith. Life President Dr. Sid Williams said he admired the Eagles' tenacity and persistence. "They had a great season," he said.

The Life Rugby Club was formed in 1981.
