Children wait their turn for an adjustment at the Foundation's seminar/fundraiser.
The Universal Chiropractic Foundation (UCF) is an organization dedicated to providing free care to children under 13 (see "Champion of the Children" in the March 11, 1994 issue of "DC").
The seminar highlighted a demonstration of the chiropractors adjusting some 50 children, infants to 10-year-olds.
The fundraiser offered a chance to win a new 1994 Dodge Viper for each $125 donation and a bonus ticket given for donations of $500 or more. The drawing for the car will be held December 29.

Sallie Can Lower Your HEAL Payments
Under Sallie Mae's HEAL Income Contingent Repayment Account, borrowers can choose to repay their HEAL loans at a rate of 5 to 10 percent of their gross monthly income, with a minimum monthly payment of $30. Under the program, borrowers may make income contingent payments for the first five years of repayment, and after that they may choose to make standard principal and interest payments each month, or select a graduated repayment plan that gradually increases payments over five years before leveling off at a higher rate for the remaining term of the loan. DC Appointed to Ergonomic Committee
Dr. William Meeker, president of the Consortium for Chiropractic Research (CCR) and dean of research at Palmer West, has been appointed to the advisory committee of the Silicon Valley Ergonomics Institute (SVEI) of Cal. State University, San Jose. Under the interdisciplinary umbrella of SVEI, a master's degree program has been created, along with other ergonomic-related projects. One such project is ErgoCon '95, the Silicon Valley Ergonomics Conference & Exposition taking place in San Jose May 22-24, 1995. The conference will focus on ergonomic methods and research to increase productivity, quality, health, accommodation, comfort, and safety for workers.
SVEI is inviting proposals for papers, posters, workshops, or panel discussions for presentation at the conference. The deadline is November 1. East Meets West at National
Dr. Kazuyoshi Takeyachi, president of the Japanese Chiropractic Association for 20 years, came to National College of Chiropractic to accept the college's "Alumnus of the Year" award.
Dr. Takeyachi noted the acceptance of drugless healing arts in Japan and the benefit to Japanese chiropractic by its association with NCC. "We are one of the branches that is growing very much like the tree," Dr. Takeyachi said.
His message for chiropractic students was to "get involved without looking for personal reward." He said the rewards come from caring about patients and the hands-on healing.
LACC Faculty Member Awarded FCER Grant
Jeffrey Cooley, DC, DACBR, assistant professor at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) will receive funding from the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) for the study, "Posterior Disc Displacement: Measurement Reliability and Morphologic Assessment." Tim Hall, DC, DACBR, Gary Schultz, DC, DACBR, and Clark Danielson, MPA, are the other LACC investigators.
This is a pre/post examination of more than 200 randomly selected MRI scans of disc herniations. The purpose of the study, funded in conjunction with the National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company (NCMIC), is to elevate the intra/interexaminer reliability of measuring disc lesions and to determine disc sizes by level and type of lesion.
Dr. Barge Speaks at WHO Symposium
Author and lecturer Fred Barge, DC, PhC, presented a paper at the World Health Organization symposium, "Education on Low Back Pain" in Recite, Brazil. September 19th. His paper was "The Chiropractic Vertebral Subluxation and its Relationship to Vertebrogenic Lumbar Pain, Cruralgia and Sciatic Syndromes." Also speaking at the symposium was Dr. Sid Williams, president and founder of Life College.
