Calif. Sports Council Formed

By Mitchell S. Anderson, DC
As doctors of chiropractic continue to participate in the area of sports injuries and physical fitness, we've been met with a certain level of resistance. For the most part, the athletes are extremely happy to have the care we as sports chiropractors provide. But, there still tends to be some occasional resistance to doctors of chiropractic when treating athletes. As a single practitioner, one is easily overlooked, but with a united voice, sports chiropractic can continue to grow for the benefit of all who participate in sporting events.

Sports chiropractors practicing in California are part of a unique group of health care providers with unique needs. These needs include protection of our rights to practice as sports doctors within the health care arena.

The ACA Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness has made great strides towards making chiropractic the health care choice for sports injuries and physical fitness. The California Chiropractic Association (CCA) has done a fantastic job of fighting for our rights to practice in the state. However, we have not had a unified voice for sports chiropractic in the state of California -- until now.

If you attended the ACA Sports Council's Symposium in Santa Barbara, you heard the exciting news: the introduction of the California Chiropractic Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness (CCSIPF).

The CCCSIPF was founded to give doctors of chiropractic who want to work with athletes a unified voice within the state of California. The CCCSIPF will be the conduit for sports chiropractors to the ACA Sports Council Network program and the California Chiropractic Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness Network program. These network programs place sports chiropractors at sporting events treating athletes -- not sitting in the stands wishing to be working on the athletes.

The CCCSIPF is not a duplicative or a competitive organization of the ACA Sports Council or the CCA. In fact, the California Chiropractic Sports Council is officially recognized by the ACA Sports Council. The CCA has also approached the CCCSIPF and is now referring all of its sports chiropractic questions and situations to this council.

We now need the support of the field doctors. If you would like to see sports chiropractic as the athletes choice, and if you would like to preserve our rights to treat athletes -- join the team now.
