The USWF has since nominated Dr. Reed as a member of the Sports Medicine Committee of International Weightlifting. This group appoints only six doctors from around the world and has never had a DC as one of its members. If he is appointed to the committee, Dr. Reed would be the international event physician for weightlifters at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Dr. Reed graduated from LACC in 1982 and later studied sports medicine and recreational injuries through LACC's postgraduate division. He became a board certified chiropractic sports physician in 1991, and is currently a coordinator of LACC's sports diplomate program. Dr. Reed is also secretary of the ACA's Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness, and chairs its Committee on Sports Rehabilitation and Sports Research. He has coached weightlifting on the national level and served as team doctor for the U.S. Olympic Weightlifting team at the World Championships for the past four years.
