The ECU convention's educational theme is "Chiropractic and Postural Defects," and the organization has lined up a very impressive roster of speakers including:
- Tammy DeKoekkoek, D.C., D.A.B.C.O., associate professor at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC), who has taught extensively on posture in the U.S., Canada, and Europe;
- Alan Breen, D.C., Ph.D., director of the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) and member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Chiropractic and Clinical Biomechanics;
- Peter Kraenzlin, D.C., professor at the Swiss Institute of Chiropractic, and regular lecturer at Swiss post-graduate courses and many European conventions;
- Nancy Arams, D.C., M.D., a Canadian private practitioner who specializes in the treatment of women and children; she's taught classes at Canadian Memorial College of Chiropractic (CMCC);
- El Dars, M.D., F.R.C.P., head of the Geriatric Department at Poole Hospital, consultant in Neurology, and AECC faculty member;
- Gilbert Meal, D.C., chairman of external examiners at the French Institute of Chiropractic, former clinic director at AECC, and private practitioner;
- Dr.
Klaus Knapp, M.D., radiologist previously head of radiology department at La Paz Hospital in Madrid. Co-founder of La Paz. He actively maintains a private practice and has specialized in pediatric radiology for 30 years.
- Dr. Dobosiewics, M.D., Ph.D., professor and head of department of rehabilitation of the Silesian Academy of Medicine, Katowice, Poland.
The convention location, Marbella, is in the beautiful southern region of Spain known as Andalucia. The city boasts a rich and colorful history. Once a stronghold of the Moors, it was a fortified city encircled with towers and battlements built in the 9th century. Many of the city's winding, twisting roads are a testament to the early Moorish influence. The Christians conquered Marbella in 1485, and later built the majestic Santa Maria de la Encarnacion church in 1618. Evidence of Marbella's antiquity is seen in some of its building foundations, dating back to Roman times.
Today, Marbella is a favorite resort spot of travelers from around the world, and thus offers a wonderfully international atmosphere. It is a sunny port on the sparkling Mediterranean, and has an fresh, outdoor flavor with its many open-air restaurants and plazas. The charming boutiques and homes are immaculately whitewashed, with balconies that have overflowing flowerpots and the ever-present showy red, purple, and orange bracts of bougainvillea.
Nightlife in Marbella is equally enticing, with excellent restaurants, discos, taverns, and the world famous dance and music of Andalusia -- flamenco. The city's night-time streets are ablaze with the old-fashioned flambeaux street lights -- perfect for a late night stroll through Marbella's Old Town.
The famous Don Carlos hotel will host the ECU convention. It overlooks bright subtropical gardens and the white sand beaches of the Mediterranean. For sports enthusiasts, the hotel offers a 1000-square meter outdoor, heated swimming pool, 11 tennis courts, a complete fitness center, windsurfing, sailing, and waterskiing. For the relaxation-minded: soak up the sun while reclining on the beach or at the pool, or lunch at one of the city's open-air bistros.
