Foot Levelers Presents, Accepts High Honors at Parker Seminars

In January at the Parker semi-nars in Las Vegas, Foot Levelers, Inc., presented each of three distinguished leaders in chiropractic with a Golden Achievement Award in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments.

Donald Petersen Jr., editor/publisher of Dynamic Chiropractic, received the "Golden Achievement Award for Chiropractic Commitment" in recognition of his long-standing influence on the profession.

Gerard Clum, DC, received the "Golden Achievement Award for Chiropractic Philosophy." Dr. Clum has served as president of Life Chiropractic College West for more than 24 years.

Days after the Parker seminars concluded, Foot Levelers was honored by the American Red Cross's "Circle of Humanitarians" in appreciation of its generous fund-matching campaign organized by president and CEO, Kent. S. Greenawalt, only hours after Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the Gulf Coast. The kindness of the chiropractic community yielded a collective $572,453, which was donated to aid Katrina victims affected by the unprecedented devastation.


Logan College Teams Up With Veterans Affairs

Under the direction of Ron Boesch, DC, Logan College of Chiropractic recently agreed to partner with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), providing part-time chiropractic services at the Jefferson Barracks Division of the VA Medical Center (VAMC) in south St. Louis County. Dr. Boesch will work with Laura Kroupa, MD, primary care service line director for the St. Louis VAMC, utilizing a HMO model for the clinic. Ensuring quality service, Dr. Boesch will review patient charts and treatment plans prepared by Logan senior student interns.


Minnesota Medical Students Get a Crash Course in Alternative Health

During a recent visit to Northwestern Health Sciences University (NHSU) in Bloomington, Minn., 140 second-year medical students from the University of Minnesota were introduced to various alternative forms of health care. In several 20-minute sessions, students learned about an assortment of treatments for patients, listening to lectures and viewing demonstrations in areas such as chiropractic, massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, and osteopathy. Maintaining the ongoing relationship between the institutions, this was the fourth year NHSU and the University of Minnesota have partnered in such a way.


Dr. Steven Perman Named Florida Chiropractor of the Year

For his work as an active lobbyist in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., Steven Perman, DC, recently was named Chiropractor of the Year by the Florida Chiropractic Association (FCA). Over the course of his 10-year career, Perman has fought for better loan programs for students attending chiropractic colleges and worked to improve chiropractic coverage for members of the Armed Forces and Medicare beneficiaries.

"It's really nice to be recognized in such a way," Dr. Perman said. Selected from among more than 4,000 FCA members, Dr. Perman received the award at the association's annual convention in Orlando, attended by several members of the Florida Senate and House and a number of senior officers from the state and national professional associations.

Dr. Perman's dedication to chiropractic runs in the blood: His father is the current vice chair of the Florida State Board of Chiropractors, and his brother lectures nationwide on chiropractic topics. Originally based in New York, Dr. Perman graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 1979, relocated to Florida in 1993, and began his own practice in Boca Raton two years later. Since his move to Florida, he has served in various political roles at the local, state and national levels.


Parker College Announces Addition of New Board Members

Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas recently added three distinguished supporters of chiropractic to its board of trustees. John Donovan, DC, Maria Fisher, MD, and D.T. Nguyen bring experience and passion for natural health care to the Parker board.

Dr. Donovan, who served previously on the Parker board, has practiced chiropractic for more than 50 years and is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractors Association and the Chiropractic Knights of the Round Table. Dr. Fisher, a chiropractic patient and supporter, redesigned her medical practice to focus on wellness and healthy lifestyle changes. Nguyen has 20 years of experience in health care, and serves as president and chief executive officer of Xactimed, a Dallas firm offering Web-based revenue cycle solutions and outsourcing services to the health care industry.


Life West Grads Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

Life Chiropractic College West's 47th graduating class received their doctor of chiropractic degrees in December 2005 at a commencement ceremony held in Hayward, Calif. The event celebrated the graduation of the classes of summer and fall 2005. Among the 49 graduates, top academic honors were awarded to Kristin Beratta of Antioch, Calif., valedictorian of the summer class. Paige Van Slooten of Pleasanton, Calif., was honored as valedictorian of the fall class. Aaron Casselman of Chandler, Ariz., and Michelle Wendling of Fort Collins, Colo., earned salutatorian honors for the summer and fall classes, respectively.
