Longtime TCC President Dr. Richard Brassard Retires
In August, Richard Brassard, DC, who was inaugurated as president of Texas Chiropractic College on July 23, 2004, announced his retirement from the college effective Sept. 1, 2013.
"It has been a great 10 years at TCC, and I've enjoyed working with so many wonderful people here," said Dr. Brassard. "I'm very proud of the academic changes we've made and of the high quality of the faculty, staff and administrators who chose to be a part of the TCC community. It's been an honor for me to work with so many talented and dedicated people. I'm confident that their continued drive guarantees the future success of the College."
As of press time, the college has not given any timeline as to when a presidential search committee will be established and what steps it will take to find a successor to Dr. Brassard; nor has it provided details on who will serve as interim president until a successor is named. However, sources tell us that Fred Zuker PhD, the vice president of enrollment management at TCC, will fill the interim role.
Ms. United States Is Also a Student at Sherman College
Jennifer Jones, a third-year student at Sherman College of Chiropractic, was recently named Ms. United States in the national pageant. Jones, who represented North Carolina, beat out 38 other women for the 2013 title.
We know [Jennifer] will be a wonderful representative for her country, her college and her future profession of chiropractic," said Lashanda Hutto Harris, dean of student affairs at Sherman College. "We eagerly anticipate the awareness her platform, 'Back to Health: Chiropractic Care,' will bring for the chiropractic profession."
Not to be confused with the Miss USA, Mrs. United States or similar beauty pageants, the Ms. United States Pageant is conducted by the Miss United States Organization, which features Miss, Ms., Teen, Junior Teen, Pre-Teen, and Little Miss divisions. Northwestern Hosts Science Academy for Local Students
From Aug. 12-16, Twin Cities students had the opportunity to learn about human body systems and other science topics at Northwestern Health Sciences University's free Summer Science Academy. The program, now in its ninth year, provides a learning opportunity on the NHSU campus for students who might not otherwise have such an opportunity, according to Tolu Oyelowo, DC, associate professor and coordinator of the science academy.
F4CP Donations Soar
In the past few months, the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) has received monetary support from numerous chiropractic vendors, the latest of which include ChiroSecure, Performance Health, ScripHessco and Standard Process. The support will help the foundation continue its public-relations campaign – in the form of print ads, press releases, advertorials and public-service announcements, among other vehicles – to educate the public on the benefits of chiropractic care. Here's how the latest pledges break down:
- ChiroSecure: initial pledge of $6,000. "I believe in the Foundation's mission of generating positive press for our profession," said Dr. Stuart Hoffman, president of ChiroSecure. "I am honored to support them in their efforts to educate the public about the many benefits of chiropractic care."
- Performance Health: $25,000 donation, bringing its contribution total to $160,100. "We believe in the mission of the F4CP and are proud to offer our support," said Marshall Dahneke, CEO, Performance Health and board member, F4CP. "The public deserves to know of the many benefits associated with chiropractic and the F4CP campaign is how they will learn. We encourage others within the chiropractic community to join us in support of campaign development."
- ScripHessco: $15,000 donation, bringing its contribution total to $50,000. "It is a privilege to support the F4CP and its mission to promote the profession," said Earl DeCarli, president and CEO of Scrip Companies and a board member of the F4CP. "As members of the chiropractic community, we are directly impacted by the positive press campaign, and the entire Scrip team is committed to supporting the foundation in its continuing efforts to raise the public's awareness of the tremendous value of chiropractic care."
- Standard Process: Bruce Bond, DC, DACBN, the author of Practicing With Excellence and Integrity: How to Take Your Practice From Good to Great!, and Standard Process, Inc., have partnered to support the foundation: a $15 donation will be made to the F4CP for every copy of the book sold (retail price: $20)."Dr. Bond is a tireless promoter of the chiropractic profession, and this newest round of support is indicative of his generosity," said Charlie DuBois, president of Standard Process, which has contributed an impressive total of $767,000 to the foundation. "Together, we have chosen to donate proceeds from Dr. Bond's book to the F4CP because we believe strongly in its mission."
