Comment Window Open for New LBP Guideline – Your Input Counts!

By Editorial Staff

With an extensive Delphi panel consensus process completed, the public comment window is now open for the new clinical practice guideline on chiropractic management of adult patients with uncomplicated low back pain. When finalized and released, the new guideline from the Clinical Compass will update the 2016 guideline on the same subject.

The guideline is based on seed statements developed by a 10-member steering committee [led by Project Director Cheryl Hawk, DC, LMT, PhD (Preventive Medicine), CHES], which were then approved by the Delphi consensus panel comprised of 69 "topic-area experienced and representative clinicians, educators and researchers."

The comment period officially ends May 2, 2022. Interested DCs can complete a comment form and submit it to Project Coordinator Cathy Evans via email by the May deadline.

The comprehensive guideline for managing uncomplicated low back pain with chiropractic care covers the following:

  • Key diagnostic considerations
  • Red flags on history and examination
  • Potential contraindications for high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) manipulation
  • Outcome assessment
  • Considerations for treatment frequency and duration

This in no way implies that chiropractors cannot treat patients with these conditions."

For further details, the comment form, summary of methodology, seed statements and more are available here. Remember that once you have completed the comment form, it must be emailed to Cathy Evans, project coordinator, no later than the May 2 deadline ( ).
