Your Story Deserves to Be Told

By Kent Greenawalt

The other day, I was reading Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul and I came across this story that embodies the miracle of chiropractic:

"Janice entered my life weighing 323 pounds.

She was taking eleven prescription medications and an average of thirty Advil tablets a day to manage headaches. She had undergone a number of surgeries in her lifetime, including back surgery, and was scheduled for neck surgery. Her hope in coming to my office was to reduce her Advil intake to ten a day or less to prepare for the impending surgery.

"Within a week [of chiropractic care] she achieved her original goal of reduced Advil intake. Due to her very positive response to adjustments, her goals quickly changed. Within months of beginning treatment, she was completely off all but two prescriptions, decided to cancel her surgery and changed her diet and exercise habits.

"Janice lost more than 150 pounds and she was able to function more than sixteen hours a day, every day. She was then diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Although traditional medicine recommended chemotherapy and radiation, she elected to follow a more conservative approach through chiropractic, nutrition and positive thinking. That was five years ago. Since then, Janice's health is better than ever. In her own words, she is 'healthier now that I have ever been in my entire life.'

"Chiropractic has dramatically changed her life. In Janice's own words, 'Chiropractic has saved my life.'"

We Need to Tell the World About Chiropractic

Janice's story is amazing, but I bet you have a story that is similar: A patient is having trouble and no one else could help; but after your chiropractic care, the patient is happy and healthy! There are plenty of good stories just like this one; in fact, there's a book full of them. And while many chiropractors have read Chicken Soup for the Chiropractic Soul, not enough people are hearing our stories. Not enough people are experiencing chiropractic, and that's because they haven't heard all the stories you see in your office on a daily basis. Getting your story out there is what it takes to show what chiropractic is really about. It turns doubters into believers.

Who's going to tell our story? The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (FCP) is doing just that as we speak. The goal of the FCP is to spread the positive works of chiropractic to the public. However, we can't do it alone - we need your help! We need your help to create more positive press about chiropractic. We need your help to get the word out that your profession can change lives for the better. We need to tell our story. Take a look at what the FCP already has accomplished - but know that we're not done yet!

Look at What We've Done

  • Since July 2006 and continuing all this year, the FCP is running full-page magazine ads featuring a testimonial to chiropractic care by Sarah Harding-Traverso, Miss Fitness USA 2006. These ads have reached a total of more than 18.5 million subscribers thus far.
  • Positive chiropractic ads have run in Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, Health, Martha Stewart Living, U.S. News & World Report, Business Week, Working Mother and Sports Illustrated.
  • Fox Network's telecast of Miss Fitness USA 2006 included a powerful pro-chiropractic TV commercial viewable by 150 million households.
  • More than 128 newspapers in 10 states (2.8 million total subscribers) included our March "advertorial" on physical fitness.
  • More than 100 radio stations carry the public service announcements sent by the FCP to AM/FM radio stations. Many of these have led to radio interviews with foundation doctors about the value of chiropractic.

Look Who Is Involved

The FCP has substantial support throughout our profession from national associations, state associations, corporate vendors, chiropractic colleges and doctors just like you. Take a look at who is involved with the FCP:

We all want the same thing - to help more people with chiropractic. Do you want to wait and be the last one to join in the fight?

Join the FCP and become a part of a growing number of chiropractors who are ready to push our profession to the next level of success. After more than 110 years of doing the same things to promote chiropractic, it's time to try something different. We need to think outside of our chiropractic box and see that there are millions and millions of people who need our help. So many people could benefit from chiropractic, if only they knew about it and how it could help them.

We are ready to show them, and we can do just that if you help us.

Become a catalyst of change for your patients, your profession and for all those people who could use your help in the future. Take the first step and see how you can shape the next 110 years of chiro-practic history. It's your turn to carry on the legacy of those who have gone before - you make it possible for future stories of chiropractic healing to be told!

We Need You in the Picture

We can't carry out this kind of large-scale campaign without your help. A one-time donation of $25 or $100 won't be enough to keep this positive press effort rolling. A monthly donation, even if it amounts to a couple of dollars a day, is what it takes to keep a continuous campaign moving forward. The FCP cannot last without a sustained effort from every chiropractor who wants to see a change for the better.
