New Logan Clinic a Veritable Pot of Gold
After providing free chiropractic services at the St. Patrick Center in St. Louis, Mo., for more than a decade, Logan College has announced the opening of a free full-time clinic at the center.
Staff members of the St. Patrick Center, which has aided St. Louis' homeless community since its inception in 1983, are enthusiastic about the clinic's opening. "We are thrilled to have Logan expand its services to our clients, who benefit greatly from the care that the interns and faculty members of the college provide," said Dan Buck, the Center's executive director.
However, the rewards extend far beyond the center's clients, according to Logan President George A. Goodman, DC, FICC: "Our interns who have worked at the St. Patrick Center over the years have found serving the center's patients to be extremely fulfilling and conducive to development of very strong clinical skills. We are delighted to be able to expand our staffing and services to this great St. Louis organization."
Western States Chiropractic Elects New Member to Board
Roger Combs, DC, was elected to the board of trustees of Western States Chiropractic College at the college's quarterly board meeting in August. Dr. Combs, a practicing DC for 25 years in Libby, Mont., brings a wealth of experience to the position, including previous experience as secretary; chairman of the Montana Board of Chiropractic Examiners; and treasurer and director of the Montana Chiropractic Association. Dr. Combs was also honored as the Montana Chiropractor of the Year in 1994.
"We look forward to benefiting from the leadership skills and experience that Dr. Combs brings to the college in his new role as chairperson of the board," enthused Western States President Dr. Joseph Brimhall. "I am confident that he can help us to continue to grow and to move in a positive direction that will benefit the profession."
Northwestern's Annual Golf Tournament "An Outstanding Success"
The weather cooperated on June 19, 2003, allowing the 25th annual John B. Wolfe Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Northwestern College of Chiropractic (NWCC) Alumni Association, to tee off without a hitch.
Alumni, students, employees and friends of Northwestern enjoyed a full day of golf at the Majestic Oaks Golf Club in Ham Lake, Minn., with meals and drinks provided, along with numerous opportunities to win prizes and awards.
NWCC graduate Jeffery Schneider, DC, and his team received the first-place lowest gross score award of $500. The team of Steve Chuppe, DC; Dan Carlson, DC; Chuck Thompson, DC; and Jeff Brunn, won second place and a $350 prize.

Breathing New Life Into Life West Student Council
The student body of Life Chiropractic College West recently elected new student council officers to serve three-quarter terms (summer, fall and winter). The new officers are juniors Anthony Rayman - president; Brandon Holmes - vice-president; and Janelle Lerma - secretary; and sophomore Heidi Dudley - treasurer.
Canadian-born Anthony Rayman is active with Life's Point Zero Club, and has a part-time on-air radio gig with a local station. Brandon Holmes hails from California, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Holmes has been involved in the student council for the past seven quarters and is on the dean's honor list. Janelle Lerma is president of Life West Christian Club and works part-time in the college's office of admissions. She spends her free time performing in a rock-and-roll band. Prior to joining Life West, Heidi Dudley received an Associate of Science degree from George Washington University. She is currently studying for a diplomate in neurology and works on campus in the office of admissions.
Pageant Winner Is Future DC
Lynne Kushnirenko, a third-year student at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), already has an honors degree in neuroscience from the University of Toronto; but there's more than just brains to this beauty.
The 25-year-old Canadian recently won the Miss Molson Indy Toronto title, and competed in the Vancouver Indy, where she won the Miss Molson Indy Canada title. The pageant wins have made her eligible to compete for the Australian Indy title in October, where she'll represent Canada Down Under.
"I started participating when I was 22 because it was something I had always wanted to try and I was getting older," Kushnirenko told The Scarborough Mirror. Now that she's on the fast track to pageant success, will she continue her studies? "That's really what I'm looking at going into in the future," she said of the chiropractic profession. "But I want to take advantage of the opportunities I have now and compete while I can."
