Dr. Phillips Elected CCE President

By Editorial Staff
Reed Phillips,DC,PhD, president of the Southern California University of Health Sciences, has been elected president of the Council on Chiropractic Education, the organization responsible for establishing standards and accreditation for chiropractic colleges in the U.S. Dr. Phillips replaces Dr. Peter Martin, former president of Palmer-West Chiropractic College.

Dr. Phillips, a member of the CCE Board of Directors for the past 11 years, sees several challenges facing the Council: deciding what role the CCE should play in the accreditation of postgraduate and continuing education programs, and the hope of creating an international CCE.

As president of the CCE, Dr. Phillips' duties include: appointing committees; serving as spokesman for the organization; presiding over board meetings; chairing the executive committee; and representing the group to other chiropractic agencies.

In related news, the annual meeting of the Commission on Accreditation of the CCE saw the selection of two new commissioners: Michael Stutts,PhD, of Eastern Virginia Medical School, and Lloyd Friesan,DC, of Thousand Oaks, California. They join newly elected officers Joseph Brimhall,DC, chairman, Bruce Gundersen,DC, vice-chairman, and Laura Weeks,DC, secretary/treasurer.

Alternative Care Studies Available on NIH's PubMed?

The National Library of Medicine's PubMed database now has a section boasting some 220,000 references and abstracts of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). What PubMed doesn't say is that this database comes from essentially the same publications found in MedLine, which fails to include many, if not most scientific journals published by the alternative health professions themselves.
