Are You a Community Health Service Award Winner?

Prevention Magazine and the Alliance for Chiropractic Progress Seek 6 DCs for Recognition by Prevention Magazine

By Editorial Staff
Chiropractors have long been contributors to the health of their communities. Now, through the efforts of the Alliance for Chiropractic Progress (Alliance), Prevention magazine, which has the 12 largest circulation of U.S. magazines, will honor six DCs from around the country. The six chiropractors chosen will be recognized with a special award to be presented at a dinner in their honor, and featured in six separate vignettes in different editions of Prevention magazine.

The Alliance includes representatives from the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC), the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), and the International Chiropractors Association (ICA). As part of their 1998 advertising campaign to promote chiropractic in the United States (please see "Alliance Unveils First Year of PR Campaign" in Dec. 15, 1997 issue), the Alliance will be co-sponsoring awards to six chiropractors who have demonstrated outstanding health service to their communities. Prevention is assembling a blue-ribbon panel group of judges to review names of DCs submitted for this award. Award winning chiropractors will be recognized in vignettes that will be featured in the pages of Prevention, which may be reprinted for distribution on a local level and alternative venues. Prevention magazine will also help the Alliance publicize the annual awards through its contacts with the national news media.

On May 1, 1998, Prevention will be hosting a gala dinner recognizing the role of chiropractic in America's health care, featuring the six award-winning chiropractors. The dinner will also kick-off the celebration of "Correct Posture Month" in May.

The deadline for submission is March 1, 1998. Entrants will be narrowed down to 36 semifinalist to be closely evaluated by the judges. On April 1, the award winners will be tabulated and notified. Production of the vignettes will commence, and invitations to awards dinner sent to the media.

The first vignette highlighting one of the award-winning DCs will run in the July 1998 issue of Prevention, with the other five to be featured in following issues. These six chiropractors will represent the "best of the best" to Prevention readers and the public.

To submit your nomination for the Community Health Service Award, provide the name of the person nominated (yes, you may nominate yourself), and a narrative with sufficient detail to allow the judges to determine the qualifications of the nominee. Nominations should be sent to:

Officers, board members, employees, delegates and assembly members of the ICA, ACA and ACC are not eligible, nor are Prevention magazine employees or their family members. All entrees must be received by Prevention magazine no later than March 1, 1998. Effort will be made to recognize chiropractors from every area of the United States.
