This past summer, Life Chiropractic College West added two new administrators to its staff. Dr. Steven H. Rowe, BS, DC, has been named the college's new chair of the clinical education department, while Honoruth Finn, BA, MS, has been appointed to the position as dean of students.
Dr. Rowe graduated from Life West magna cum laude in 1986 and has been practicing since 1987. He has served as an instructor, guest lecturer and faculty instructor at numerous chiropractic colleges including Life University, Northwestern College of Chiropractic and the Centre for Chiropractic Studies at MacQuarie University in Australia.
As chair of the department of clinical education, Dr. Rowe will be responsible for the development and content of all classes in the department. In addition, he will complete faculty evaluations and oversee the clinical competency section and preceptor program. He will also teach classes in examination procedures and the Gonstead technique.
Ms. Finn served as a consultant to the college's office of student affairs before being named dean of students. Prior to her duties at Life West, she served as the assistant superintendent of human resources with the Gilroy Unified School District. As dean of students, Ms. Finn will oversee all department functions related to the college's student services and counseling offices. She will also assist students with testing, activities, athletic events, clubs, housing and employment opportunities.
Dr. McNamee Honored at CCA's Annual Convention
Dr. Kevin McNamee of Woodland Hills, California was honored by the California Chiropractic Association when he received the Dr. Robert B. Botterman award at the association's annual convention in San Diego. The award is presented to the CCA member who has contributed to the most to the image of chiropractic in the community.
Among McNamee's efforts to promote the benefits of chiropractic are the self-published Chiropractic College Dictionary, which provides a six-page profile of the chiropractic colleges worldwide. He is also the executive producer of the local-television program "Chiropractic and You" which airs to a potential audience of more than two million viewers, and conducts seminars and lectures in the local community on health trends and lifestyle changes.
LACC's Academic Program Receives Ten-Year Accreditation
The Los Angeles College of Chiropractic's academic program recently had its accreditation renewed for ten years by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The college was first given a five-year accreditation by WASC in 1993. LACC is currently the only chiropractic college to be accredited by the association.
Ralph Wolff, the association's executive director, commended the college for its preparation and efforts to raise the level of chiropractic education. "The progress that LACC has made since the last accreditation visit has been remarkable. Everyone there at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic should feel very proud of this great achievement and distinction."
College president Reed Phillips, DC called the association's decision to accredit the school for another 10 years "a historical landmark for LACC, as well as an educational benchmark for all other chiropractic colleges to attempt to achieve."
