"DC": Please tell us about Bennett X-ray Technologies' commitment to chiropractic.
Mr. Miars: Bennett X-ray Technologies is a manufacturer of x-ray equipment. We've been involved and committed to the chiropractic profession for a little over 40 years now. It has always been a goal of Bennett X-ray Technologies to provide the chiropractor with the most advanced, fully-featured equipment that is available, and also to back that equipment with a complete five-year product warranty. In 1989 we introduced to the chiropractic profession high frequency generator technology. The high frequency is significant because it is really giving a better image, a better x-ray, while also reducing the patient dose considerably over the single-face technology systems that have been offered to the chiropractic marketplace. Bennett, overall, is the number one supplier of radiographic imaging equipment in the medical imaging marketplace, and I believe that we are also the number one supplier of x-ray equipment to the chiropractic profession.
"DC": Tell us why Bennett X-ray Technologies decided to become a Platinum Club Crown sponsor to the chiropractic centennial.
Mr. Miars: We decided to become a sponsor because of our commitment to the profession. The chiropractic profession has been very good to us, and we wanted to support chiropractic in its centennial, a significant event and milestone in the profession. We wanted to be a part of it and show our support to the chiropractic profession.
"DC": Now that chiropractic is entering its second century, what do you think the future holds for the chiropractic profession?
Mr. Miars: I think the profession obviously has a significant role providing health care to the population. Equipment-wise, we are going to be displaying something in the "equipment of the future" area. One of the things that we're going to be showing is a digital, filmless piece of x-ray equipment that you will be able to perform x-ray procedures without the use of film, processing, or chemistry. This digital imaging technology is a system that we are already using in mammographic applications. Our purpose of course is to take the next step and use that technology in general body x-rays. This is something that is part of our design criteria, something that is going to be upgradeable to the existing high frequency generator technology systems. It will not represent a significant equipment replacement, it will just a be a modification as to the medium in which they look to get their x-ray images of the patient. I think it's significant not only with what Bennett is doing, and we already have a patented technology available that we are using in the mammographic application, but I believe Kodak also announced a major alliance with IBM and MicroSoft, whose whole thrust is going to be filmless imaging. Bennett basically is already there because we already have the filmless systems that are in use in the medical imaging marketplace today.
