Iranian Chiropractic Association Formed

By Editorial Staff
Although there are many Iranian students and DCs currently in North America (Iranians are the largest foreign contingent in American chiropractic colleges), Iranians have no national association to call their own ... until now.

The newly formed Iranian Chiropractic Association (IrCA), based in Ontario, Canada, is an international organization open to all individuals interested in chiropractic. The IrCA is inviting all interested DCs to call or write for more information. The organization's president is Mr. Ali Nouraliei.

The association does not endorse any particular philosophical, political, or religious beliefs, nor does it receive financial assistance from any government or private sectors. The IrCA's objectives are:

  1. To educate the Persian community, both inside and outside of Iran, about the philosophy, science, and art of chiropractic.

  2. To work toward official recognition of chiropractic in Iran, and for the opening of a chiropractic college there.

  3. To increase the Persian community's knowledge of health-related issues.

  4. To provide information and assistance for Iranian students who are interested in becoming doctors of chiropractic.

A bilingual newsletter will be published biannually, and will be mailed to all association members as well as many Iranian libraries and health science organizations.

The IrCA may be contacted at the following address:

New York Chiro Council Uses HOPE to Combat Hunger

The New York Chiropractic Council, in conjunction with various food agencies throughout the state of New York, sponsored its 2nd annual Helping Other People Eat (HOPE) day on February 12th. Thousands of patients trudged through the snow and brought food to more than 115 DCs participating in HOPE Day.

The HOPE Project video aired on cable television throughout the state, and the program included the Council's monthly show "Hooked on Health" listing the Council's toll free 800 number. The New York Chiropractic Council collected over 30,000 pounds of food for the state's needy people, and received numerous commendations from congressmen, assemblymen, senators, town supervisors, and mayors acknowledging the Council's efforts.

Tennessee Chiro. Assoc. Honors Dr. Allen Roberds

Allen Roberds, DC, was recently honored with the President's Award by the Tennessee Chiropractic Association (TCA). The chair of the TCA Public Awareness council, Dr. Roberds is the founder and director of the Stars for Chiropractic's Special Children's Foundation (SFCSC), and has produced and directed the SFCSC benefits/galas with the participation of such country music luminaries as Rosanne Cash, Rodney Crowell, Eddy Raven, Stella Parton, and the late Keith Whitley. Dr. Roberds also has a weekly radio talk show on health and entertainment called "Second Opinion" on Tennessee's WLAC. The show is currently being scheduled for national syndication and will continue to feature such guests as Dr. Chester Wilk, Dr. Larry Webster, and attorneys George McAndrews, and David-Chapman Smith.

TCA President Dr. James Messimer cited Dr. Roberd's tremendous dedication to his patients and outstanding contributions to chiropractic as the reasons for honoring him.

PCS Names Dr. Carl Phillips "Chiro of the Year"

Dr. Carl M. Phillips of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania was recently named "Chiropractor of the Year" by the membership of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society (PCS) at its annual convention in Pittsburgh. Formerly serving as secretary, district director, and public relations chair, Dr. Phillips was also elected to a second term as president of the PCS.

Dr. Phillips is one of fewer than 25 Pennsylvania chiropractors to attain diplomate status with the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists. In November, he was elected as district director of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA). As district director, he represents chiropractic associations from 13 states. In January of 1993, he was elected to serve as Pennsylvania Alternative Delegate to the ACA.

Florida DC is Highly Ranked Ironman Triathlete

Dr. Chris Sigafoose, son of well-known DC James M. Sigafoose, recently competed in his third Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii. He finished the event in 11 hours and 12 minutes. He recorded his best time (10:14) in his first year at the Kona event. In the 35-year-old age group, Chris is ranked first in the state of Florida and fifth in the nation -- an impressive accomplishment.

Although he spends 25 hours per week at his practice in Venice, Florida, Chris finds the time to train for the triathlon's grueling events: bicycling 100 plus miles on the weekend; running 10-15 miles every day; swimming laps at lunch, and hitting the weights in the gym at night.
