New Center for Neurochiropractic Education
The Center for Neurochiropractic Education, an organization dedicated to advancing diverse approaches to spinal health and furthering interdisciplinary communication among the health care disciplines, was officially launched at a educational seminar "Four Approaches to the Management of Disorders of the Spine" held in March. The organization is headquartered in White Plains, New York and its board of directors is made up of six DCs and four MDs.
The Center has affiliations with the following hospitals: Lincoln Hospital, Bronx, NY; Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY; Northern Westchester Hospital, Mt. Kisco, NY; United Hospital, Port Chester, NY; and White Plains Hospital, White Plains, NY. Said board member Michael Bardwell, D.C., "This organization is significant because it represents a real change in attitudes that will ultimately lead to more informed practitioners."
Palmer Davenport Faculty Member Edits Research Journal
Brian McMaster, Ph.D., associate professor in Palmer's department of anatomy, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Chiropractic - The Journal of Chiropractic Research and Clinical Investigation. Dr. McMaster holds a B.A. from Augustana College and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Illinois State University. He has been a member of the Palmer faculty since 1978.
TCC Appoints New Dean of Basic Sciences
The Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) recently appointed Suzzette F. Chopin, Ph.D., as the new dean of basic sciences. Dr. Chopin has been at TCC since 1991, serving as an assistant professor of anatomy: histology and human anatomy. Previously she taught gross anatomy, neuro-sciences and microscopic anatomy at Louisiana State University Medical Center; neuro-sciences, microscopic anatomy, as well as head and neck anatomy at University of South Florida College of Medicine; and comparative anatomy of the vertebrates, biology and zoology at Houston Community College.
Dr. Chopin received her B.S. in secondary education and biology, and her M.S. in biological sciences from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her Ph.D. in anatomy and biochemistry from Louisiana State University Medical Center, also in New Orleans.
PCCW Expands Outpatient Student Clinic Facilities
Palmer College of Chiropractic West (PCCW) has completed both expansion phases of its outpatient student clinic facilities. Phase one created a new student clinic located in the adjoining building to PCCW's primary outpatient facility, and phase two added 12 new treatment rooms situated in two modules of the main clinic. Referrals from sources other than interns increased substantially last year, up from 30 percent in 1990 to 53 percent in 1991.
Said Dr. Kevin McCarthy, PCCW dean of college clinics, "What has taken place during the past year is a commitment on the part of the college to increase the clinical experience for our interns and develop a first-rate health care facility for patients." Two new full-time clinicians and the promotion of three part-time clinicians to full-time status will help to handle the patient traffic.
NYCC Creates Chiropractic Student Recruitment Organization
The New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) recently announced that the formation of its NYCC Friends and Alumni Network (FAN) committee. The committee encourages qualified college students to consider chiropractic as a career. Under the auspices of NYCC's admissions department, between 50 and 75 DCs are assisting with the committee. Before joining the program, alumni recruitment counselors were required to attend a training session at NYCC.
NWCC Salutes Chiropractic Family of Five
The Northwestern College of Chiropractic (NWCC) recently named the Jacot family the "1992 Outstanding Chiropractic Family of the Year." Earl Jacot, D.C., graduated from NWCC in 1952 and practices in Baldwin, Wisconsin with his son Douglas Jacot, D.C., a 1979 graduate of NWCC. Soon daughter Teri Jacot will graduate from NWCC and will join her father and brother in practice. Harold Jacot, D.C., graduated from NWCC in 1962 and practices in Beatrice, Nebraska. His daughter Lori Jacot DuChene is in her second trimester at NWCC.
