This dispute, among others, (all of which have been acquitted) arises from the Chinese name for DCs. The Hong Kong Chiropractors Association changed the Chinese name for chiropractor to jek tsui fo yi sung (spine treatment doctors), replacing the former translation of jek tsui king fo yi sung (spine and nerve treatment doctors), which doctors claimed was easily confused with the Chinese translation for orthopedic surgeons.
Second Consensus Conference to Be Held in California
The Second Consensus Conference on Validation of Chiropractic Methods will be held June 21-23 in Monterey, California. LACCS Collects Record Amount For Food Donation
The Los Angeles County Chiropractic Society (LACCS) collected a record amount of food during its second annual Helping Other People Eat (HOPE) day. LACCS' HOPE day was held to donate food to Love Is Feeding Everyone (LIFE), founded by actor Dennis Weaver. The donation breaks LACCS' own record set on the inaugural HOPE day event in 1990, totaling nearly 80,000 pounds and filling three semi-trucks. On HOPE day 1991, more than 8,000 chiropractic patients donated food to LIFE and received free chiropractic treatment from one of the 240 participating members of LACCS. H.O.P.E. day also received corporate help from radio station KOST 103.5 FM and IBM, as well as aid from actors Bruce Kirby ("L.A. Law") and Alaina Reed-Hall ("227").
FCER Offers Patient Appreciation Day Kits
In conjuction with the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research's (FCER) ongoing fund drive, chiropractors can write for a Patient Appreciation Day assistance kit. Two sample announcements created by John H. Gantner, D.C. of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) are available as part of the packet. On his Patient Appreciation Day, Dr. Gantner offered chiropractic services in return for a $10 donation to the FCER. The event generated $390 for the FCER and brought Dr. Gantner eight new patients. World Congress on Vitamin C to Convene in May

Texas DCs Attend Osteopathic Medical Association Conference
Recently, 20 DCs from San Antonio, Texas were invited to attend a conference of the local Texas Osteopathic Medical Association. The goal of the conference was to exchange manipulative techniques between the osteopaths and the chiropractors. Two of the four featured speakers were DCs: O.L. Fikes, D.C., spoke on computer assisted biomedical x-ray analysis, and Kevin Amen, D.C., spoke on manipulative treatment for lumbar intervertebral disc injuries.
NCC Offers Sports Diplomate Course
The National College of Chiropractic's postgraduate division is offering a new course of study leading to eligiblity for the Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (D.A.C.S.P.) credential. The course includes 240 hours of study, and gives DCs the opportunity to enroll in the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) concurrently and qualify for both credentials within a two-year period.
Palmer Professor Chosen for Government Health Delegation to China
Saeed Faruqui, associate professor of Physiology at Palmer Chiropractic University, was invited to participate in the Citizen Ambassador Program Health Systems Delegation to China in March of 1992. Honorary chairman of the program is President George Bush. The delegation is part of the People to People International program which enables American professionals to work on a person-to-person basis with their foreign counterparts. Professor Faruqui will be representing the chiropractic profession among approximately 30 other health care professionals from the United States.
