Newly-elected officers of the NBCE are: Paul M. Tullio, D.C., chairman of the board; Titus Plomaritis, D.C., president; Frank G. Hideg, Jr., D.C., vice president; Donald Davidson Ross, D.C., treasurer; and Louis P. Latimer, D.C., secretary. FCLB director-appointees to the NBCE are Brent Owens, D.C., FCLB president; and Carroll H. Winkler, D.C., FCLB vice president. Jay Perreten, D.C., at-large director on the NBCE board of directors since 1982 was succeeded by George Arvidson, D.C.
In other action, provisions for a May 18, 1991 NBCE building dedication were approved, as well as a 1991 NBCE test administrator orientation and training session to be held at the NBCE's recently-completed Colorado facility.
CCCKC Holds Political Action Assembly
Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City recently held a political action assembly with the goal of organizing participation in the chiropractic community's campaign to influence a reauthorization of the Health Education Assistance Loan (HEAL) program.
Each attendee received step-by-step instructions on how to voice their opposition to the proposed budget cuts. Urging students to write to their legislators, the school provided model letters and envelopes, as well as the names and addresses of all senators and representatives.
Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, president of CCCKC, speaking at the assembly said, "Do not underestimate the value of your letters. Together we must secure the future of our profession."
LACC Hosts Visitors from Soviet Georgia
Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) and its associated student body recently hosted four visitors from the Republic of (Soviet) Georgia. Dr. Anton Kekilidze, head of the trade union of Tbilisi State Medical Institute; Dr. Joseph Katsitadze, chairman of the Georgian Republic Council of Medical Workers Trade Union (GRCMW); Mrs. Nino Kobuladze, also from the trade union; and Mr. Edward Goomashyan, their professional translator; all came to the United States at the invitation of LACC chancellor Maylon Drake.
The GRCMW has extended an invitation to representatives of LACC to attend its National Medical Conference, and the college has offered two full scholarships for Georgian students who qualify to study chiropractic at LACC.
"I am very impressed with LACC and chiropractic education as a whole," said Mr. Katsitadze. "Our organization is very interested in having LACC open the first chiropractic clinic in Georgia." Representatives of LACC plan to visit Soviet Georgia in the fall of 1991 to tour medical and educational facilities.
PCU (Davenport) Starts Fund Drive
Palmer Chiropractic University (Davenport) began its first annual Spring Phon-a-Thon campaign on March 11th. The university's goal was to raise $100,000 from its alumni to support the annual Giving Program, which covers programs not paid for by tuition such as scholarships, research, and academics. The college exceeded its goal, with a total of $119,466 in pledges.
NWCC Hosts Annual Children's Event
Northwestern College of Chiropractic (NWCC) recently hosted and co-sponsored the annual "Bloomington Loves Its Kids" community event at the Bloomington, Minnesota campus. Thousands of local children participated in the community carnival that featured games, entertainment, and exhibits. Children were able to get a first-hand look at chiropractic as a profession along with other exhibits that provided civic and child-related information.
"We consider it essential that we play an active role in enhancing the positive aspects of our community," said Dr. Donald Cassata, president of NWCC. "This event gives us an opportunity to give back to the community some of the support we receive throughout the year."
NCC Dean Meets with Senators and Representatives
National College of Chiropractic (NCC)'s Dean of Institutional Analysis and Development, Dr. Emory Giles, attended the annual meeting of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C. Dr. Giles spoke with Senator Paul Simon and Representative Henry Hyde and met with Senator Alan Dixon to discuss an educational grant proposal that does not yet include chiropractic. He also met with the administrator of the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) to discuss a grant proposal he will submit, which covers an academic skill development center and a counseling center at NCC.
