McClelland New FCER President

By Editorial Staff

George B. "Mac" McClelland, D.C., was elected the new President of FCER at the Board of Trustees meeting in Scottsdale, AZ on January 24-25. A member of the Board of Trustees since 1985, Dr. McClelland brings extensive experience with FCER programs and a strong commitment to growth in chiropractic research and education to the presidency.

Dr. McClelland became active in FCER in 1982, when he first served on the Research Committee, a position he continues to hold. In this role, he helps to review research proposals to assure that they are responsive to the profession's needs and are consistent with FCER's funding priorities.

Since 1987, he has also been active in the Study Section on Low Back Pain, using his expertise to help evaluate large scale clinical research proposals. Dr. McClelland's commitment to the future of chiropractic is evident in his involvement with the Education Committee, which reviews applications for fellowships and research residency appointments.

The American Chiropractic Association has also benefitted from Dr. McClelland's involvement. A member since 1969, he has served on various councils, chaired the Student ACA Committee, and has been the State of Virginia Representative to the ACA's House of Delegates since 1981.

ACA recognized Dr. McClelland's contribution to the profession in 1984 when it presented him with the ACA Meritorious Service Award and again in 1989, when he received the ACA Distinguished Service Award. He was also honored by the Virginia Chiropractic Association, which selected him VCA Chiropractor of the Year in 1980 and 1985.

Since he graduated from National College of Chiropractic in 1969, Dr. McClelland has been in private practice as a licensed D.C. He now practices in Christiansburg, VA and resides in nearby Blacksburg with his wife, Susan.
