Heart of America Foundation: A Unique and Perpetual Fund-Raising Program

By Editorial Staff

Suppose you were to learn that up to ten percent of your monthly long distance phone billing could be donated to your favorite non-profit organization in chiropractic AND that you could receive an extra five percent discount on already low long distance rates?

It is estimated that the average long distance telephone bill is $28 per month. If enough DCs or subscribers participated, the funds generated back into the profession could be impressive, indeed.

There are over 45,000 DCs in the U.S., each with an average of 500 patients. This is 22.5 million people dedicated to chiropractic. Listed below is the amount the non-profit chiropractic college, research organization or association could receive monthly, based on ten percent of $28 ($2.80) of long distance monthly billings.

For 100 subscribers ---------------- $280
1,000 subscribers ---------------- $2,800
10,000 subscribers ---------------- $28,000 PER MONTH!
100,000 subscribers ---------------- $280,000
1,000,000 subscribers ---------------- $2,800,000

In Norman, Oklahoma there is a non-profit organization called Heart of America. Its purpose and design is to assist non-profit and charitable organizations (such as those we have in the chiropractic profession) in the generation of revenues required to fulfill the services for which they were created. One program Heart of America sponsors is called Lifeline. Lifeline is a simple, but revolutionary concept in charitable fund raising. It provides up to a ten percent rebate on your long distance telephone bill in addition to the five percent savings you receive and contributes that ten percent of your bill to the non-profit organization of your choice. Because Lifeline subscribes to the long distance services of AT&T, MCI, US SPRINT, and others, subscribers are no longer subjective to the often confusing "sell" tactics of the carriers in advertising wars. Your long distance service will be routed to the carrier which will provide the highest quality and most competitive rates available.

The Perpetual Fund-Raiser

Through the Lifeline program, contributors save money on a service (that they use every month anyway) and simultaneously send a portion of the profit for that service back to the non-profit organization of their choice. For example, a DC might wish to designate his alma mater, a chiropractic association, or research organization as his choice to receive ten percent of his long distance phone bill each month.

Most members of the profession are certainly able to afford a small donation, yet few take the time and effort to do so on a regular basis. This tax-deductible service is an easy and effective means of giving to the organization of your choice, generating thousands and even millions of gift dollars back into the profession each month -- all the while saving the subscriber money!

If the DC would prefer to designate a particular carrier, then he may do so, with a bonus of five percent of his long distance billing gifted to the organization of his choice. The amount increases to ten percent however, if he allows Heart of America to designate his long distance vendor for him on a daily basis, as rates fluctuate in the communications market.

How Non-Profit Organizations Can Participate

One of the most perplexing problems non-profit organizations encounter is motivating non-givers or occasional givers to become involved on a monthly basis with the organization. Fund-raising mailings month after month are often a significant drain on a fund-raising budget.

Chiropractic's non-profit organizations can sign up individuals with the Lifeline Program and get up to ten percent of their long distance telephone bill for as long as they stay with their long distance telephone company. (The amount is five percent if they choose to use one carrier and ten percent if they choose all three carriers and allow Heart of America to select their long distance vendor on a daily basis.)

Individual doctors interested in the Lifeline program should send their business card with "Lifeline" written on the back to:

Heart of America:
David Lively, D.C.
1907 Shelly Court
Urbana, Illinois 61801
(217) 344-9361

Chiropractic's non-profit organizations interested in taking advantage of these benefits through Heart of America's Lifeline program should mail their non-profit status and ID number to Dr. Lively at the address above.
