Dr. Cheryl Hawk: New Chair of CCGPP Research Commission
The Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCGPP) recently named Cheryl Hawk, DC, PhD, chair of the CCGPP Research Commission.
Dr. Hawk, vice president of research and scholarship at Cleveland Chiropractic College, is a 1976 graduate of National College of Chiropractic. In 1991, she earned a doctorate in preventive medicine from the University of Iowa. She has been the primary writer of successful grant and contract proposals totaling more than $5 million, and has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
In 2001, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Chiropractic Health Care Section of the American Public Health Association, and was named "Researcher of the Year" in 2003 by the American Chiropractic Association. Both awards recognized her work in the areas of public health, health promotion and prevention. In 2005, she was named "Researcher of the Year" by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research.
"We are very pleased to have a researcher of Dr. Hawk's caliber as chair of the commission," said CCGPP Chair Wayne Whalen, DC, DACAN, "and are certain that her integrity, credentials and expertise in chiropractic and wellness related issues will serve her and CCGPP well."
DC Named to Advisory Committee for Calif. Division of Workers' Comp
Gary Globe, DC, PhD, provost and academic dean at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles, has been named to serve on the Medical Evidence Advisory Committee for the California Division of Workers' Compensation (DWC). Dr. Globe was notified of the prestigious appointment by Anne Searcy, MD, medical director for the DWC.
"Given Dr. Globe's background in research and education, coupled with his many years of real-world practice experience, he will become a valuable member of the advisory committee," said Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, president of Cleveland Colleges. "He is well-positioned to translate the relevant research information in context of the field practitioner perspective and the chiropractic profession's role in managing the various injuries sustained within the California Workers' Compensation system."
Dr. Globe, who is also vice president of planning and assessment for Cleveland's multi-campus system, will serve a two-year term on the advisory committee. At the end of that term, he will retain the position until an acceptable replacement is located. The first meeting associated with his appointment is scheduled for late January or early February 2008 and will take place in northern California.
New FCER Executive Committee, Board Members
With a new president, executive committee and new members added to the board of trustees this July, the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) heads for the future. Charles R. Herring, DC, DABCC, FICC, replaces longtime board president Vincent P. Lucido, DC. Dr. Herring has served in the Louisiana House of Representatives and has been appointed to numerous health care boards and commissions.
"This election was important since new trustees have joined FCER from careers outside or an-cillary to chiropractic," said Dr. Herring. "Joining our current hard-working board, these new members will bring fresh new ideas to the foundation, moving it in directions that up to now, no other chiropractic organization has traveled."
Along with Dr. Herring, the new Executive Committee includes: Vice President Reed B. Phillips, DC, PhD, MSCM, DACBR, former president of Southern California University of Health Sciences; Secretary/Treasurer D. Michael Kelly, Esq.; George B. McClelland, DC, DABCC, former FCER president; and R. Reeve Askew, DC, former member of the Board of Governors for the American Chiropractic Association.
New trustees include Jeffrey Fedorko, DC, member of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association and the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations; Mitchell Haas, DC, MA, dean of research at Western States Chiropractic College; Fabrizio Mancini, DC, FICC, FACC, president of Parker College of Chiropractic; and David M. Rubin, PhD. Re-elected to the board was Thomas E. Hyde, DC, DACBSP.
