New Chair of Philosophy Dept. at Life West

Effective this month, Dr. Brian Flannery is the new chair of the Life Chiropractic College West Philosophy Department.

A founding member of the International Chiropractic Association's Council on Chiropractic Philosophy, Dr. Flannery served as a council board member from 2005-2010. During that same time period, he also served as a faculty member at Life University, where he oversaw the development, implementation and management of the chiropractic program's 120-hour business curriculum.

"Dr. Flannery has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to chiropractic philosophy and a passion that resonates deeply with us here at Life West," said Dr. Brian Kelly, Life West president, in making the announcement regarding Dr. Flannery's appointment as chair. "We welcome his expertise and insight as we continue to develop our curriculum and program."

Parker University Honors Two Faculty Members

Parker University's Academic Faculty of the Year is Dr. Nicole Lederman, an associate professor at Parker who has served the school since 2002; the Clinic Faculty of the Year is Dr. Paula Shaff, also an associate professor at the university, who has 15 years' tenure at Parker.

"We have a tremendous group of faculty that truly care about our students and go above and beyond to serve them," said Dr. Gery Hochanadel, provost of Parker University, in a Aug. 17 press release announcing the awards.

NBCE Adding Test Site

The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners' Board of Directors has voted to open a Part IV Practical Examination test site at Palmer College of Chiropractic's Florida campus in Port Orange. Dr. Davis Kinney will serve as chief examiner at the Palmer Florida site, according to Dr. Paul Townsend, NBCE director of practical research testing and development. Dr. Kinney will be one of approximately 70 personnel required at the Palmer Florida site, consistent with personnel requirements for other Part IV test sites. The first examination at Palmer Florida takes place this November.

According to the NBCE, "the new site will support a testing capacity of 150, accommodating students from Palmer College of Chiropractic Florida, as well as students from the National University of Health Sciences chiropractic program in St. Petersburg, Fla." Up to this point, students from both programs have had to travel to Georgia (home of Life University) and other sites to take the Part IV exam.

In other NBCE news, Dr. James Badge, former NBCE president, was recently appointed to the Phoenix Sister Cities Commission by Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. Dr. Badge's tenure with the board included service as District IV director (1987-2005), secretary (1999) and vice president (2000-2004) before assuming the presidency in 2005-2006.

The Phoenix Sister Cities program "is committed to promoting global awareness, understanding and appreciation by creating exceptional opportunities and international partnerships for the citizens, businesses, and organizations of Phoenix. This is achieved through a variety of student, educational, cultural, business and economic exchanges that create sustainable, long-term international partnerships and business opportunities." Current sister cities include Grenoble, France; Prague, Czech Republic; Calgary, Canada; Catania, Italy, Ramat-Gan, Israel; Hermosillo, Mexico, Taipei, Taiwan; Chengdu, China; and Ennis, Ireland.
