The Veterans Administration has announced the five VA medical facilities that will serve as initial sites for the administration's recently established pilot chiropractic residency program.
Also named were the chiropractic academic affiliate and residency director for each of the five sites:
- VA Connecticut: affiliated with the University of Bridgeport, College of Chiropractic; residency director: Anthony Lisi, DC
- VA Western N.Y.: affiliated with New York Chiropractic College; residency director: Andrew Dunn, DC
- VA Canandaigua (N.Y.): affiliated with NYCC; residency director: Paul Dougherty, DC
- VA St. Louis: affiliated with Logan University, College of Chiropractic; residency director: Pamela Wakefield, DC
- VA Los Angeles: affiliated with Southern California University of Health Sciences, Los Angeles College of Chiropractic; residency director: Valerie Johnson, DC
As specified in July 2013, when the VA announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) that "solicits applications to establish Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Chiropractic Care Residency training programs," the pilot program begins in July 2014 and will provide funding for up to six chiropractic resident positions in the first year, with initial funding allocated for three years.
According to the VA's initial program announcement, the residency "will emphasize the provision of chiropractic care within an integrated health care system, in collaboration with primary care Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACTs), specialty care, and other medical and associated health providers and trainees." Each facility selected must provide at least two full-time credentialed chiropractic staff, one of whom must be a VA employee.
