As we go to press, seven Logan students are making the final preparations for a 1,100 mile bicycling trek leaving from Saint Louis Aug.
The student ride is being sponsored by the LCI-Health product division, which is, among other items, donating a custom table for the tour, which will later be sold to the highest bidder.
Cleveland-KC Keeps History Alive
As Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City (CCCKC) celebrates its 75th year, efforts are underway to restore rare items and memories. CCCKC President Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III believes that every student that enters the college has an influence on (and is influenced by) the institution. To signify how students become part of the history of CCCKC and the chiropractic profession, Dr. Cleveland has established the Cleveland Archives.
"This history must be preserved," said Dr. Cleveland. "However, I have created the Cleveland Archives to become more than the repository of record for individuals and events of the past. It represents a time capsule of the chiropractic story, which is now maintained and preserved for Cleveland students, alumni and chiropractic historians to enjoy and become a part of."
The preservation began in September 1996 when archivist Jetta Nash joined the college to establish an archives department and begin the task of organizing and preserving the college's history. She is in the discovery phase of sorting through the historical documents and memorabilia to determine the extent of the collection.
There have already been some interesting finds among the old photographs, diplomas, yearbooks, class notes, tables and x-ray equipment that make up the collection, including items belonging to Dr. Sylva Ashworth that date back to 1860.
Although the college has stored a significant amount of memorabilia, Jetta Nash is still looking for archive material from CCCKC alumni and friends. She will be conducting oral histories of CCCKC alumni, including those who remember the original Clevelands (Drs. Carl Sr., Ruth, and Millie). Those interested in participating or donating to the collection can contact Ms. Nash at (816) 333-8230.
