Two DCs Appointed to AMA Physician Consortium

Christine Goertz, DC, PhD, vice chancellor for research and health policy at Palmer College of Chiropractic, and George B. McClelland, DC, past chairman of both the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research and the American Chiropractic Association's Board of Governors, were recently appointed to the American Medical Association (AMA)-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI).

Drs. Goertz and McClelland will each serve three-year terms (with the opportunity to serve second terms) on one of two newly assembled committees: Dr. Goertz on the Measure Advisory Committee, which, according to the ACA, "will advise the PCPI Executive Committee on matters related to performance measures and support activities related to the PCPI measure development methodologies"; and Dr. McClelland on the Quality Improvement Advisory Committee, established to advise the executive committee "on matters related to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of the health care delivery system and support activities related to the PCPI QI Program."

NYCC Affiliates With Two VA Facilities in Residency Program

New York Chiropractic College has announced its affiliation with two of the Veterans Administration facilities selected to participate in the recently announced Chiropractic Care Residency training program. As detailed in our Sept. 1, 2013 issue, the pilot program will be located at 3-5 VA health centers and includes funding for a maximum of six chiropractic resident positions in 2014, with initial funding planned for three years.

Drs. Paul Dougherty and Andy Dunn, who are both NYCC professors and VA chiropractors, will mentor residents selected for the program at their respective VA health care facilities in Canandaigua and Buffalo, N.Y.

Canadian Research Chair Program Keeps Growing

Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College's Dr. Pierre Côté has been awarded a five-year, $500,000 Canadian Research Chair in Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation. Dr. Côté is the director of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology - CMCC Center for the Study of Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation, where he leads a research program CMCC describes as designed to define "best practices for the prevention and rehabilitation of disability and contribute to policy development through knowledge transfer and exchange."

"CMCC is delighted to learn that Dr. Pierre Côté has been awarded this Chair," said Dr. Jean Moss, CMCC president, who is set to retire this year. "This award recognizes his many contributions to the world of disability management and rehabilitation. I am confident that this will provide him the opportunity to continue to extend his research into key areas that will ultimately affect the health and well-being of Canadians."

With the appointment, Dr. Côté becomes the 14th DC currently holding a position as part of the profession's university-based research chair and professorship program, established by the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation (CCRF). Learn more by clicking here.
