All the Wrong Places

By Stanley Greenfield, RHU
Do you remember that old song line, "Looking for love in all the wrong places?" Well, this article has no advice for the lovelorn, but if you feel like you have been looking in all the wrong places, read on!

Here's a new twist for you computer buffs to try out: online mortgages.

Yes, now you have another use for that computer instead of just playing solitaire! You can now look for a mortgage on the Web. Here are four locations for you to surf: Countrywide (www.countrywide.com); Homebuyer's Fair (www.homefair.com); Inland Mortgage (www.inlandmortgage.com); and Waterfield Mortgage (www.netgrafx.com/waterfield). They have lots of information, and it may be just what you're looking for. While you're at it, why not e-mail me at . Now beam me up, Scotty, and let's move on to another galaxy!

How about a bank that is not a bank, but does almost everything a bank does, does it better, and pays you more interest? Did I lose you? No problem. I'm referring to TeleBank. It's a bank insured by the FDIC that pays a good rate of interest on savings, CDs, and money market accounts. They have set up a special program for chiropractic students, and I am sure they will take your money! Give them a call at 1-800-638-BANK. Mention code #5310 to receive their special offer. I am sure that you will be pleased with the interest they are paying.

Still unhappy with your life? Read on! Do withholding and social security just drive you totally nuts every month when it's time to write checks to your staff? Want to end that problem without creating another problem? (The other problem, by the way, is increasing your massive outflow of cash for any help you seek.) Why not give ADP (Automated Data Processing) a call. They can and will do it all for you at a fee that will pleasantly surprise you. Give Mike Shaw a call at 1-800-829-7434, and he will direct you to an office in your area.

Is your chin still dragging the ground? Let's see what we can do to cure that! Still worried about how to pay for your kid's education? No problem! Let their favorite "Uncle Sam" help you. They are two ways. Number one: put them on the payroll. You can pay them up to $4,150, and they pay no taxes at all. You could add an additional $2,000 and let them fund their own IRA. Will it work? Not if you don't call me and give it a try! Number two: give your equipment to them and lease it back from them. Like I said, this way "Uncle Sam" pays for up to 40% of their college education. It sure beats paying for all of it!

Are your bills getting you down? Do you always end up paying the wrong one at the wrong time? Maybe you have never seen my bill management system that I use with all of my clients in the Greenfield power program. Well, now you can! All it takes is a self-addressed stamped envelope requesting my "einney, meaney, minney, moe" bill management system. That's easy enough.

Have you checked your account with social security lately? Maybe you aren't getting credited with the right amount. If not, and you don't check your account, after three years you are out of luck. Not sure how to check? Drop me a SASE and I'll send you the proper form to accomplish just that!

Here's a question for you. Do you have an office manual? If you don't, why not? How can you run a practice without one? Don't have one? Get one!

Another question. Do you have job descriptions for your office, and have given a copy to each employee, had them read it and sign that they understand what their job is? Why, you ask? How can you tell a person that they are not doing their job when you did not tell then what their job is and have no way of proving that you communicated this to them? Maybe you just want to spend the next few evenings in court defending yourself. If not, get job descriptions now!

I'm not even going to waste my time asking if you have a business plan!

Here's some interesting reading for you besides this column! Get your hands on the Consumer Information Catalog published by the U.S. General Services Administration. It is filled with booklets you can order (some are free) that can really help you. You can get the info online at www.pueblo.gsa.gov, or you can contact the GSA in Pueblo, Colorado.

Enjoy the lots of goodies from yours truly to help you take control of your finances and your financial future. It's not a bad long-term goal to have!
