Research Project Begun -- Alumni Research Participation Encouraged
On June 17, NYCC Director Dr. Wesley Canfield represented the college at the Consortium for Chiropractic Research (CCR) meeting in Monterey, California, where the first of the AMA's Wilk et al., suit settlement funds were approved for a research project. NYCC was asked to collaborate with Northwestern Chiropractic College (NWCC) to carry out a patient-satisfaction study; the colleges expect to have a research proposal ready for consideration by the CCR in October. Another project involving a survey of chiropractic care in rural areas is also in the planning stages with NWCC.
NYCC's research department is also interested in helping alumni respond to the Chiropractic Centennial Foundation's request for grant proposals for original research. There are several categories for awards that will be funded up to $10,000 each. The research results will be presented in Washington and Davenport in 1995 as part of the Centennial Celebration. Application forms are available through the NYCC research department. One category is specifically for private practitioners.
The research department has grant applications for other funding sources such as the National Institute for Chiropractic Research (NICR), and the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER). The research department can assist with study design and article preparation for anyone interested in practice-based research, regardless of whether they are a participant in NYCC diplomate program or not. NYCC alumni may contact Dr. Canfield, director of research at (315) 568-3183 or 3131.
