PCC Opens Community Outreach Satellite Clinic

By Editorial Staff
Palmer College of Chiropractic (PCC)'s first community outreach satellite clinic opened June 1st, located in a Davenport, Iowa apartment building owned by the Salvation Army. The clinic is fully equipped with three adjusting rooms, an x-ray room and lab, faculty offices, a waiting room, and a student lounge. The Salvation Army will be using the remaining apartments for a shelter and transitional housing.

"We're excited to be opening this month," said Dr. Jeanne Black, community outreach director. "We're looking forward to working with the Salvation Army, who donated the two apartments to us." According to Dr. Black, the Salvation Army is interested in having the outreach clinic run chest x-rays on those seeking help at their shelter, as well as those coming in for chiropractic care. "There has been a resurgence of tuberculosis across the country," said Dr. Black. "Many cases have been found in homeless people who simply don't have access to care. By doing x-rays, we can identify the disease early enough to refer patients for care."

Pennsylvania DCs Emphasize Good Posture

The Wyoming Valley Chiropractors of Pennsylvania saw opportunity during "Good Posture Month" and sponsored a children's poster contest with the theme of "Good Posture and Your Health."

Chiropractors spoke at local schools about good posture and its relationship to health. Armed with this knowledge and their imaginations, the students went to work illustrating the concept. Teachers then selected the best posters from each school as finalists to be judged by local celebrities at the Wyoming Valley Mall. The grand prize was a Mountain Bike from Sears; second and third prizes were $25 and $10 gift certificates to the Mall. Dr. David Madeira, speaking for the group said, "It is our desire that children understand the importance of having the best posture they can. It (good posture) offers physical, mental, and social advantages that are available to everyone who is willing to work on their posture."
