New President of FICS Elected

The International Federation of Sports Chiropractic (Fédération Internationale de Chiropratique du Sport – FICS) elected Dr. Peter Garbutt new president, effective May 1, 2016. Dr. Garbutt, who practices in Canberra, Australia, succeeds Dr. Sheila Wilson (Indianapolis, Ind.), who leaves after six years of FICS leadership.

"I am standing on the shoulders of many giants of sports chiropractic who have gone before me in FICS," said Dr. Garbutt. "These include Dr. Sheila Wilson, who has given FICS strong and invaluable leadership through a period of impressive growth of FICS and sports chiropractic during her six years as president."

To learn more about FICS activities and how chiropractic care interfaces with the sports community, read "Beating the Odds: An Interview With Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta," reprinted from a recent issue of FICS News in this issue of DC.

Dr. Konarski-Hart Named Outstanding Program Intern

Dr. Karen Konarski-Hart, the first chiropractic physician in Arkansas State's Master of Science in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management program, was recently named outstanding program intern. According to Dr. Konarski-Hart, who was also the first DC to serve as president of the Arkansas Board of Health, many of her program projects focus on the inclusion and importance of chiropractors in emergency and disaster response.

To learn more about Dr. Konarski-Hart and her interest in public health, particularly disaster preparedness / emergency response, read "When Chiropractic Meets Mainstream Public Health" in our Sept. 28, 2006 issue.
