The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) has awarded accreditation to all five chiropractic residency programs currently administered at Veterans Administration facilities, "the first residency programs in the nation ever to be awarded this distinction, a significant advancement in the evolution of chiropractic education," according to a VA press release announcing the milestone.
The VA launched the chiropractic residency program in 2014 as a three-year pilot project at the five sites. The program provides funding for up to six chiropractic residents each year, with initial funding approved for the first three years. Each of the five VA facilities must provide at least two full-time credentialed chiropractic staff, one of whom must be a VA employee.
Each VA facility also partners with a CCE-accredited chiropractic college in conducting the program. Institutions affiliated with the current five VA facilities include the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic (academic affiliate of VA Connecticut Healthcare System); New York Chiropractic College (VA Western New York Healthcare System and Canandaigua VA Medical Center); Logan University College of Chiropractic (VA St. Louis Healthcare System); and Southern California University of Health Sciences, Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System).
