Sherman College President Steps Down

Dr. Brian McAulay Named Interim President

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina -The board of trustees of Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic has announced the resignation of the president of the college, David Koch,DC, effective September 23, 2000. Dr. Koch will take a one-year sabbatical to write a chiropractic chiropractic philosophy textbook and return to the college in October 2001 as a full-time member of the faculty.

Dr. Koch was an administrator and faculty member at Sherman for many years before becoming president of the college on Jan. 1, 1997, following the retirement of the college's founder/president, Dr. Thom Gelardi. During Dr. Koch's tenure, Sherman constructed and opened the Theron and Selma Olsen Building; began construction of the Brown House and Chiropractic Museum; developed a strong research program; achieved candidacy status with the college's regional accrediting agency, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and initiated several educational agreements with area colleges.

Brian J. McAulay,DC,PhD, executive vice president and provost of Sherman College, has been named interim president. Robert Berkowitz, chairman of the board of trustees, lauded Dr. McAulay's "sophisticated understanding of straight chiropractic philosophy, strong management expertise and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Sherman College."

Dr. McAulay was a chiropractic practitioner from 1985 to 1998. Before joining Sherman College, he taught undergraduate and graduate management, human resource management and organizational communications courses at Temple University and Philadelphia University.

He was a member of the Pennsylvania College of Straight Chiropractic faculty (Penn Straight), and was dean of postgraduate education, department chairman and faculty senate chairman.

Dr. McAulay is a member of the board of regents of Sherman College, and serves on the board of the Federation of Straight Chiropractors and Organizations. He holds a PhD in organizational theory from Temple University, a DC from Penn Straight, and a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Toronto.

"We have a strong administrative team in place, an ambitious agenda for growth," observed Dr. McAulay. "Sherman College has a bright future, and I am honored to have the opportunity to continue our progress," he concluded.

The board of trustees will conduct a national search before announcing a permanent presidential appointment.
