In 1996, during Comer's tenure, the SMC institutional advancement program was selected as the number one program among two-year colleges by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Other positions held by Comer at SMC include admissions counselor and director of admissions. His primary responsibilities at Sherman will include meeting the college's annual and capital fund goals and expanding its endowment and planned giving programs.
