HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- The Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society (PCS) and the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Federation (PCF), both based in Harrisburg, have combined their resources and assets to form the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association (PCA).

The merger of the PCS (990 members) and the PCF (460 members) has translated into a PCA membership of 1,375, plus 35 associate members.

The PCA Board of Directors met Nov. 16-17 in Harrisburg to conduct business for the first time as the PCA.

"The PCA will better represent the chiropractic profession and chiropractic patients' concerns," said PCA President Roy Love, DC. "Our goal is to assure patient access to quality cost-effective chiropractic treatment."

In December of 1995, over 2,000 DCs polled in Pennsylvania gave thumbs up for unifying the four existing chiropractic organizations in the state. With negotiations for merging ensuing, two of the state associations declined to merge: the Chiropractic Fellowship (in February, 1996), and the Pennsylvania Academy of Chiropractic Physicians (in May, 1996).

The PCA has a transitional board in place, which will serve until an annual meeting in Oct. 1997. The current nine PCS districts will be restructured into 14 districts across Pennsylvania. Elections for directors from each of the 14 districts will take place this spring.

The PCA has enunciated it purposes as: protecting the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic, and the professional welfare of its members; full legislative, regulatory and judicial representation for chiropractic and its patients; closer cooperation among all DCs in the state.
