Not All Search Engines Are Created Equal

By Editorial Staff
With approximately 30 million web site pages on the Internet, the volume of material accessible on any given subject is dramatically dependant on one's choice of a "search engine."

To illustrate this point, we did an Internet search for "chiropractic" using a number of the more popular search engines:

Alta Vista 44,800
Excite 15,864
Galaxy 93
HotBot 22,638
Infoseek 11,097
Lycos 4,481
Magellan 1,226
MetaCrawler 49
WebCrawler 1,366
Yahoo 178

Note: WebCrawler is the standard search engine for America Online.

All of the other search engines are pre-installed with Netscape Navigator.
