The ISCA says this program is unique within the profession. A letter was sent to each one of the 350 members of the ISCA to ask for volunteers to be a chiropractor of the day. The program provides in some cases the first chiropractic exposure for the legislators. Conversely, for some of the DCs this is their first direct contact with legislators. The DCs and representative take time-out to meet over lunch and discuss points of mutual interest, and thus gain some insight into each others' profession.
The ISCA plans to offer the program annually during each session of the general assembly.
Edward Treacy, executive director of the ISCA, feels the evolution and success of the program is a reflection of the high esteem in which chiropractic is held by state legislators. Mr. Treacy added, "Our members' willingness to spend a day treating legislators is a sign of their commitment to quality health care and to the profession.
