Palmer Clinics Provide Care for Pro Basketball Players
During the Continental Basketball Association's last season, DCs from the Palmer Clinics served as official chiropractors of the Quad City Thunder. The Thunder place 2nd in the CBA Championships this April.
This association between the basketball players and DCs has proven mutually beneficial. Dr. Glenn Williams, dean of chiropractic sciences commented, "The Thunder have been fantastic to work with this season. I'm happy to see Palmer get involved with professional athletes in the area and hope we get more involved with teams both on the professional and collegiate levels."
Forward Barry Mitchell of the Thunder expressed his enthusiasm for chiropractic: "My muscles feel a lot looser and my mobility and endurance have been vastly improved. My performance has improved with the help of chiropractic care."
Palmer Professors Published
Glenda Wiese, M.A., and Dennis Peterson, M.A., associate professors have published a paper, "An Overview of Chiropractic Educational Institutions, 1896 to Present" in the March 1991 issue of the Journal of Chiropractic Education.
Palmer Mansion Restoration Receives Grants
Phase II of the restoration of the Palmer mansion is underway thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Historic Resources Development Program of the State Historical Society of Iowa, and a $1,000 donation from the Illinois Prairie State Chiropractor's Association.
The goal of the restoration project is to ready the Palmer mansion for hosting events for the centennial celebration of chiropractic in 1995.
New Graduate Program at Palmer
Palmer is offering a M.S. in chiropractic called "Lifestyle" which will provide students with an applied biomechanics background in clinical settings, combined with independent research skills.
Under the new program, practicing DCs will be able to continue a practice while completing the master's degree. Classes are scheduled for 33 alternate weekends beginning in October 1991, with classes meeting six hours per day on Saturdays and Sundays. Each weekend will constitute one credit hour.
