Chiropractic Appears on "CBS Good Morning"

By Editorial Staff
For chiropractic to be presented on national television has always been a dream for most of the profession. The usual question is: "When will someone put together a national television advertising campaign?"

On July 15, 1991 at approximately 7:44 a.m.

PST, chiropractic appeared on the nationally syndicated television show "CBS Good Morning." Representing the profession was Louis Sportelli, D.C. The interview was on the "Health" segment of the program, conducted by nationally know co-host Paula Zahn.

The interview included demonstrations of motion palpation and chiropractic manipulation (as conducted by Dr. Sportelli on his patients in his office) as well as discussions of the American Medical Association's attack on chiropractic and the AMA's subsequent loss in the Wilk et al. trial.

But perhaps the most significant part of the segment occurred when Dr. Sportelli was able to present the results of some of the most recent research which has demonstrated chiropractic care to be twice as effective for low back pain.

This is not the first time the profession has been represented on national television. Dr. Sportelli was also a guest on the talk show, "Live with Sonya," which aired several months ago.

At the time of this writing, Dr. Sportelli, Scott Haldeman, D.C., M.D., Ph.D., and two orthopedists will be appearing on CBS's "Nightwatch." The subject for discussion (and possibly some controversy) will be the "exploding" concept of manipulation and the RAND Study. The date for this program to be telecast has yet to be scheduled.

The chiropractic profession can't buy this kind of positive public relations. Dr. Sportelli believes that both television programs are the direct result of the RAND Corporation's recently released study. It is gratifying to see our investment in quality research by internationally recognized organizations is paying off many fold in positive public relations and media exposure.
