The united endeavors of the Chiropractic Association of Oklahoma, (CAO), Oklahoma Chiropractic Physicians Association (OCPA), and Fellowship of Chiropractic Physicians (FCP) have resulted in the passage of House Bill 1790 -- the "Board of Examiners" Bill.
The "Board of Examiners" bill grants the board power to promulgate rules and regulations governing the professional conduct of chiropractic physicians so that they may establish and maintain a high standard of honesty, dignity, integrity, and proficiency in the profession.
Additionally, HB 1790 also empowers the board to establish a procedure for the certification or accreditation of chiropractic physicians who are uniquely qualified in particular chiropractic or diagnostic specialties.
A substantial increase of $115 will occur in the annual renewal license fee paid to the board, however a proviso will allow the board to establish a reduced fee for non-residents of Oklahoma and persons 65 years of age or older, if they are not actively engaged in the practice of chiropractic in the state.
Among the many benefits that the passage of this bill and the increased renewal fee will bring to Oklahoma are: the board will be authorized to fund research programs in chiropractic that would be beneficial to the chiropractic physicians in the state, and in additition, the board will be able to discipline a chiropractic physician who violates any of the rules and regulations of the board.
The combined efforts of the CAO, OCPA, and FCP are shining examples to the chiropractic profession of what can be accomplished legislatively when everyone works together. With unity comes strength, recognition, achievement--- and miracles. -- Editor
