Northwestern Names New President: Dr. Mark Zeigler
On June 30, the board of trustees at Northwestern Health Sciences University (NHSU) announced that Mark Zeigler, DC, will become the fifth president of the university.
"I am honored and humbled to be the fifth president of Northwestern Health Sciences University," said Dr. Zeigler. "I am looking forward to this new opportunity for Northwestern and myself. I am excited about being able to lead our institution that has an international reputation for excellence in education, patient care, research and community involvement."
After graduating from Northwestern in 1980, Dr. Zeigler established a private practice in Sturgis, S.D., and was active in local politics. From 1982-1996, he served as a city council member, and was elected mayor in 2001, a position he will be resigning from to become president of Northwestern. Dr. Zeigler was appointed to the South Dakota Governor's Health Care Task Force on Managed Care in July 1995 and to the Governor's Public Health Advisory Committee in May 1997. He also was appointed by the South Dakota attorney general to the South Dakota Law Enforcement Standards and Training Commission in 2002, and has served on the Sturgis Regional Hospital Advisory Board since 1997.
Dr. Zeigler served on the board of directors of the South Dakota Chiropractic Association from 1986-1992 and as president from 1994-1996. He was the South Dakota delegate to the American Chiropractic Association from 1998-2006. He was named Chiropractor of the Year by the South Dakota Chiropractors Association in 1998, and Alumnus of the Year by Northwestern in 2002. He will be relocating to Minnesota with his wife and children to assume the position of NHSU president.

CCA President Calls for Unity, Action
Dr. John Bueler, new president of the California Chiropractic Association, is urging California chiropractors to put aside their personal and professional differences for the greater good: sharing the benefits of chiropractic care with the public. In a recent speech, Dr. Bueler emphasized the importance of research, public relations and political clout in "[giving] the 34 million spines in California real choice and real access to this beautiful thing called chiropractic care."

"With 10,000 plus DCs in the state of California, we have the potential to be an unstoppable force in health care. While most people like to dream of winning the lottery, my dreams go something like this: 10,000 DCs in the state of California as members of CCA representing over $8 million dollars in annual revenue, allowing us to fund a 2 million dollar yearly public relations campaign without increased dues or assessments. A $2 million dollar yearly political action committee that would be far and away the largest of any non-union health care group, including CMA. And a $2 million dollar yearly research campaign that compiles existing research and creates new research that establishes once and for all, not only what we as DCs currently already know to be true, but also establishes new benefits of chiropractic care that go beyond our wildest dreams."
"Are you ready to help give the 34 million spines in California real choice and real access to this beautiful thing called chiropractic care? Because at some point in time, we are going to have to make a commitment to treat each other less as competition and more as comrades. At some point in time, we are going to have to learn to disagree without dividing. At some point in time, we are going to have to replace bickering and complacency with gratitude and thanksgiving for those that have paved the way for us to experience the beauty and miracles of chiropractic. And then use that gratitude as fuel for us to make it a little easier for the generations of DCs to come."
WFC Announces Newest Corporate Members
The World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) has announced its newest corporate associate members. The seven companies (four new and three upgrading) join the 36 members added in 2005 and during the first quarter of 2006. The WFC now boasts more than 70 corporate members, representing a variety of vendors that provide high-quality chiropractic services, equipment and supplies, promoting and supporting the chiropractic profession worldwide.
The seven new or upgrading corporate associate members are Activator Methods International, Anabolic Laboratories, DaVinci Laboratories (new), Golden Tiger Distribution (new), HESSCO, Myovision/PBI (new), and Nutri-West (new). The WFC welcomes additional corporate and individual associate members, and urges doctors of chiropractic worldwide to consult the WFC Web site before buying chiropractic products and services.
