FCP Launches "Military Corner"
The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (FCP) has officially launched a special section of its Web site called "Military Corner", which provides patients, practitioners and other interested parties with a wealth of information regarding access to chiropractic care within the Department of Defense and Veterans Administration.
"With a large percentage of eligible military personnel unable to reasonably access the chiropractic benefit, I applaud the foundation for seizing the initiative to educate the public on the issues surrounding chiropractic care for our military veterans and active duty personnel," said Ret. U.S. Army Brigadier General Rebecca Halstead, spokesperson for the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress. "The new Military Corner allows each of us to understand the improvements being made to date and the challenges which lie ahead."
Eighty-Five Years: Annual FCLB Educational Conference
The Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB) held its 85th annual educational conference on Marco Island, Fla., in May. Attendees included representatives from chiropractic licensing boards, testing organizations, associations and chiropractic colleges from the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Highlights of this year's event included the following:
- The conference opened with a keynote address by Mr. Troy Elliott, communications director for the Association of Social Work Boards. Elliott discussed retaining board funds to serve the public.
- Also on day one, FCLB delegates voted to admit the Australia and New Zealand licensing boards as the newest federation members.
- On day two, Dr. James Winterstein, president of National University of Health Sciences, delivered the 21st annual Joseph Janse Lecture. Dr. Winterstein discussed his vision of the future of health care, regulation, and chiropractic's role.
- Educational sessions focused on overcoming barriers to mobility; chiropractic testing; scope-of-practice issues; sports mobility and treatments outside the office; chiropractic accrediting standards; the developing Certified Clinical Chiropractic Assistant program; assessing a board's effectiveness; chiropractors as primary care providers; the current draft Model Practice Act as presented by the FCLB task force; and complex legal issues faced by boards.
FCLB board elections were also held during the conference. Newly elected board members include Dr. Lawrence O'Connor (president), Dr. LeRoy Otto (vice president), Dr. Farrel Grossman (treasurer) and Dr. Daniel Saint-Germain (immediate past president); district directors include Dr. Donn J. Fahrendorf (district I), Dr. Carol J. Winkler (district I alternate), Dr. Gary Pennebaker (district II), Dr. William Rademacher (district II alternate), Dr. Gary Counselman (district IV alternate), and Dr. Michael Coon (district V). Dr. Pennebaker was chosen by the new board to serve as board chair.
Awards presented by outgoing FCLB President Dr. Saint-Germain went to the Louisiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners (Dr. Earl L. Wiley Outstanding Board Award); Drs. Carol Davis and Jerry Blanchard (Special Presidential Recognition Award); Dr. James Badge, Ms. Deb Bridges, Ms. Beth Carter, Dr. Shannon Gaertner-Ewing , Dr. Rick McMichael, and Dr. Stephanie Youngblood (Pillars of Chiropractic Award, recognizing dedication to public protection); Dr. N. Edwin Weathersby (2011 George R. Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service; and Ms. Bophany Hem and Ms. Amber Fogarty (2011 Dr. Wayne Wolfson Scholarship Award). Also recognized was longtime (now retired) board member Dr. Oliver "Bud" Smith Jr.

Boyd A. Bradshaw, EdD, has been appointed vice president of enrollment management at Logan College of Chiropractic. In the new position, Dr. Bradshaw will be responsible for admissions, financial aid, student services and registrar functions.
"We are very pleased to have someone with Dr. Bradshaw's knowledge and skills as vice president of our enrollment management team," said Dr. George Goodman, president of Logan College. "His many years of solid experience in the fields of admissions, student recruitment and retention, strategic planning, financial aid and marketing will be a huge benefit in helping Logan grow our student base."
Dr. Bradshaw has considerable previous experience relative to enrollment. He joins Logan from Valparaiso University, where he served as vice president of the division of enrollment management. Previously, he served as assistant university provost for enrollment management at the University of Louisville; then as vice president of the division of enrollment at Saint Louis University.
