Shelby M. Elliott, D.C. of Dayton, Texas was appointed as president of Texas College of Chiropractic (TCC) on August 1, and then presented as such to TCC Alumni Convention in Houston, Texas August 2-4.
Dr. Elliott, who is a graduate of both TCC and Logan College of Chiropractic (LCC), said, "I am extremely optimistic about accepting this challenge. After experiencing almost every other facet of chiropractic, I am excited to try something new. I am looking forward to putting this second largest chiropractic college at the top, as the best educational institution in the country."
In his illustrious career, Dr. Elliott has also served in all the offices of the Texas Chiropractic Association (TCA) on both the district and state level, including president. He also served nine years in all offices of the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners, six years as a delegate on the American Chiropractic Association's (ACA) Board of Governors Executive Committee, and five years as chairman of the board.
Some of the honors that he has received include TCC's coveted William D. Harper Science of Existence Award for 1988; the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists' Lifetime Chiropractic Achievement Award for 1988; TCA's Young Chiropractor of the Year Award in 1964 and district 11 Doctor of the Year Award in 1974; and the American Chiropractic Association's Doctor of the Year Award for 1990.
Dr. Elliott sees finances as TCC's biggest problem. His goal is to attack this problem through a far more visible public relations program. He also seeks increased school pride and enthusiasm among TCC students, faculty, and alumni. In order to pursue these plans, some of the goals he proposes are as follows: develop a close relationship with faculty and staff; increase enrollment; develop an expanded and more profitable post-graduate program; create a more aggressive and profitable outpatient clinic; secure personal and corporate grants; develop and refine a hospital relationship superior to anything in chiropractic; and most importantly, establish an all-out effort to obtain state funding and/or become part of the university system as part of the mainstream of education in Texas.
Dr. Elliott will commence his tenure as TCC president on September 1. TCC looks forward to a lucrative and secure future under the talented leadership of their new president, Dr. Shelby M. Elliott.
