CMCC Developing Work Disability Prevention Program
Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) recently recruited Dr. Patrick Loisel, founder of the Work Disability Prevention CIHR [Canadian Institutes of Health Research] Strategic Training Program at the University of Toronto, to work with the CMCC Division of Graduate Studies to design and implement a work disability prevention program for chiropractors.

"The value in working with the chiropractic community is its holistic perspective when it comes to patient care," commented Dr. Loisel, who will retain cross-appointments with both the University of Toronto and the University Health Network - a network of three Toronto-area hospitals (Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital). "Often the nature of a chiropractor's work requires [them] to understand the patient's lifestyle and environment to the degree that is optimal for successful disability prevention."
Dr. Gerard Clum Recognized for Achievement in Education
At Parker Seminars Las Vegas earlier this year, former Life Chiropractic College West President Gerard Clum, who stepped down in January to pursue other interests within the profession after 30 years at the Life West helm, was honored with the Golden Achievement of Chiropractic Education Award by Foot Levelers, Inc. Foot Levelers established the award two decades ago to honor individuals who have helped advance the chiropractic profession.
"This achievement award is a once-in-a-lifetime recognition of exceptional contribution and dedication to different aspects of the chiropractic profession," said Kent Greenawalt, president and CEO of Foot Levelers. "Chiropractic is part of Dr. Clum's DNA - live, eat, breath, sleep, do, achieve for this fine profession."
New Director of Nutritional Studies at Logan College
Weiwen Chai, PhD, junior researcher at the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, has been named director of nutritional studies at Logan College of Chiropractic. Dr. Chai will be involved in the development of the college's Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance degree program.
Dr. Chai's considerable professional experience includes classroom teaching and field education, nutrition and food safety programs in schools, day-care settings, and senior centers, as well as involvement with diabetic support groups. She is a graduate of the University of Wyoming (BS in Medical Technology, MS in Food Science and Human Nutrition, and PhD in Human Nutrition) and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (BS in Medicine).
"I am pleased to have Dr. Chai as Logan's first director of nutritional studies," said Dr. George Goodman, president of Logan College. "She will be instrumental in developing the new Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Human Performance, along with Dr. Elizabeth Goodman, Logan's dean of university programs."
