The first symposium, held at Life College in November of 1993, helped pave the way for the joint research project, and opened up opportunities for Life Around the World (LAW), operated by the college and the Life Foundation, to continue making inroads for chiropractic in Russia and Indonesia.
Dr. Auerbach said the purpose of the meetings has been to evaluate and assess outcome criteria that could help standardize the study of low back pain worldwide for chiropractors, orthopedics, and rheumatologists, and other disciplines. "This is a high profile contact," said Dr. Auerbach. "They (WHO) recognize chiropractic may be the most effective care for low-back pain and they want to learn more about it.
The next WHO Back Pain Symposium is scheduled for December in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
FACE Gives NYCC a $75,000 Matching Challenge for Building Fund
The board of directors of the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education (FACE) have voted to give a contribution of $75,000 toward the building fund at New York Chiropractic College if the college can collect an equal amount in cash by November 1, 1994.
"This timely challenge from the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education, who has already been so generous in their support of the profession's educational improvement, is a milestone for NYCC," said college President Dr. Kenneth Padgett. "We are confident that we will meet their challenge with the assistance of chiropractic supporters and chiropractic professionals everywhere."

New Directors Elected to NBCE
DCs Vincent Greco of Suncook, New Hampshire, and John Tierney of Southern Pines, North Carolina, were elected district directors for the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) at the NBCE's annual delegates meeting April 8, 1994 in Washington, D.C.
Re-elected directors were DCs Paul Tullio, Louis Latimer, and D. Brent Owens. Dr. Titus Plomaritis was elected to fill the unexpired term of resigning director Dr. Richard Carnival.
Lights, Camera, Action at Life West
In early May, Life Chiropractic College West was the "stand in" for an ICA research facility for a King Koil mattress commercial targeted for the South Korean market. The South Korean advertising agency working for the Korean distributor of King Koil asked the ICA for assistance in locating a chiropractic college where the commercial could be filmed. Six Life West students, three faculty members, and two administrators enjoyed two days of "stardom," and the chance to promote the chiropractic profession in South Korea, during the filming.
Life West PR Manager Teresa Wippel said that filming the commercial on the campus with chiropractors and students was "to establish in the minds of the Korean public that chiropractors undergo rigorous academic training and are very skilled health care providers."
