Virtual Unity - Your Chance to Design Our Future

By Donald M. Petersen Jr., BS, HCD(hc), FICC(h), Publisher
"Some men see things as they are and ask, 'why?' I dream things that never were and ask, 'why not?'
- Robert F. Kennedy

What if the chiropractic profession in the United States could radically change the status quo? How would you like to create one national chiropractic association lead by a chiropractic "dream team?" And what if you directed this team?

That may be an impossible scenario, but with the computer age comes the ability to create a "virtual" reality.

This is our chance not just to dream about unity, but design it and see how it would work. We can choose our leaders, establish our dues and decide just how they will be spent to bring chiropractic to the forefront of health care.

Not only will this allow us to see the many benefits of unity, but it will also help develop a shared vision of the type of national chiropractic organization we want and how it would benefit the profession and our respective practices.

Please don't misunderstand. This is NOT the creation of another national chiropractic association. No one will be asked to join anything, pay any dues or resign from either of the two national chiropractic associations.

But this is a rare opportunity to envision what could be. To create a shared vision for chiropractic in the United States and examine the value, requirements and potential benefits of making that shared vision become reality.

Let's Begin with Leadership

Let's call this "virtual national chiropractic association" Our Chiropractic Association (OCA). We first need to do decide on the leadership.

Who really understands and can best represent you?

Who do you trust and look up to?

Which of our leaders would you rather not have?

The first step is the nominations. We've created a special web page that allows you to enter your candidate's name and why he or she should be one of the leaders of our virtual chiropractic association. To insure that everyone has the opportunity to participate, both nominations and subsequent voting can be done on line, via fax, or by mail.

To nominate one or more chiropractic leaders, please follow the directions at the bottom of this page. Nominations will be accepted from October 1 - 15. Anyone in the chiropractic profession can be nominated.

Once nominations have been made, the names will be published and individual web pages will be created with each nominee's photograph and biography. This will give you the opportunity to read about each nominee and vote for (or against) those you would like to see lead our virtual chiropractic association. Every doctor of chiropractic will be able to vote using a special program that will allow you to only vote once on each candidate. Once you have chosen the leaders, we will begin looking at our goals and how to accomplish them.

While this may seem like just a fun exercise, it is extremely important. Developing a shared vision is the first step in making something come into existence.

Until you envision it, you can't make it happen.
