University of Missouri Adds Chiropractic

By Editorial Staff

The Missouri Orthopedic Institute, a branch of the University of Missouri (MU) Health Care System, has added chiropractic to its list of available services and named K. Jeffrey Miller, DC, MBA (a longtime columnist for Dynamic Chiropractic) and Jose Ramirez, DC, MS, CCSP, assistant professors of chiropractic.

The estimated 70,000 patients who visit the institute – the region's largest freestanding orthopaedic center and most comprehensive orthopaedic surgery center – annually are now eligible to receive chiropractic care in an integrated care setting that includes orthopaedic surgeons (including spine surgeons), nurses, rehabilitation staff and other health professionals.

According to Greg Robertson, internal solutions consultant for the Missouri Orthopedic Institute, Drs. Miller and Ramirez "will operate a clinic right alongside our other orthopaedic providers. The intent is for them to operate a chiropractic practice that partners with all our other providers to deliver the right care, at the right time, in the perfect setting for care. So it is both an independent clinic and an integrated team at the same time.

"We see strong collaboration opportunities where consultations can occur every day and discussions can occur on the spot that allows a patient to move easily from one provider to another based on the clinical need of that patient," Robertson added.
