CCE Puts Life U. Chiropractic Program on Probation – Again

The Council on Chiropractic Education has placed Life University's DC degree program on probation effective May 20, 2019. In a public disclosure notice dated May 23, the council noted the reason for its action as "noncompliance concerns related to program completion rates," specifically CCE Policy 56:

"The two-year average completion rate, calculated at 150% of the time normally designated for completion of the DC degree, must be at least 70%."

According to the CCE, Life's chiropractic program has reported DC completion rates below 70 percent for the past three years: 68.6 percent in 2016, 67.8 percent in 2017 and 64.9 percent in 2018.

In its disclosure notice, the CCE stated that during the probation period, which cannot exceed 24 months, Life's program retains its accreditation status and has the opportunity to correct the noncompliance issues that led to probation. The notice also lists the upcoming steps to be taken by Life and the CCE in the coming months:

  • Life's program must submit a progress report by Aug. 1, 2019 or sooner, addressing the noncompliance concern and providing evidence of compliance.
  • The program must host a CCE "focused site visit" this fall to verify / validate the August progress report.
  • The CCE will review the progress report, site team report and the program's response to the site team's final report at its January 2020 meeting to determine if the program has demonstrated compliance ... or whether further action is required.

compliance - Copyright – Stock Photo / Register Mark The CCE notice includes a statement from Life University that says, in part: Life University's Doctor of Chiropractic program (DCP) acknowledges the [CCE] sanction of public probation for non-compliance with Policy 56's program completion rate requirement. Life University has been working with the CCE since 2017 to revise its policies and implement additional student support services to become compliant with this policy."
