The award, a life-sized bust of George Washington, was inscribed with the ICA's tribute to the congressman. Mr. Evans is a leading advocate for veterans in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the driving force behind a long series of initiatives for veterans. In his district, Mr. Evans is respected for his efforts to bring new services to local veterans, including new outpatient clinics in the Quad Cities and Quincy, and the establishment of the Quad-Cities Vets Center. He has also been a strong advocate of environmental and energy policies, and has worked hard to strengthen federal support for farm and rural communities.
Mr. Evans has sponsored more chiropractic initiatives than any other member of Congress. He was instrumental in the passage of legislation passed in December 2001 to fully integrate chiropractic within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Mr. Evans was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois. He served in the United States Marine Corps, and earned his law degree from Georgetown University in 1978.
Dr. Hoffman, Chiropractor of the Year
During the ICA's 76th annual meeting in Reston, Virginia, Bob Hoffman, DC,
FICA, of New York was honored as "Chiropractor of the Year 2002." The award was instituted in 1950 by ICA's founder, Dr. B.J. Palmer. Dr. Hoffman was elected a Distinguished Fellow of the ICA in 1983, and was elected president of the ICA by the membership in 1999, serving from May 1999 to June 2001. Prior to that election, he was the chairman of ICA's representative assembly.
During his tenure as ICA president, Dr. Hoffman brought ICA's practice guidelines to fruition and detailed a strategic planning effort for the association's international efforts, including the Lisbon 2000 Symposium on the Science, Art and Philosophy of Chiropractic.
Dr. Hoffman is a 1978 graduate of New York Chiropractic College, and has operated a highly successful family practice in New York for 22 years. He has served as chairman of the board of the New York Chiropractic Council, and has appeared on numerous radio and television shows, and in the national press.
