Daniel J. Murphy, DC, Named New ICA Vice President

By Editorial Staff
The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) announced Aug. 20 that it has filled the position of vice president, vacated by the passing of Dr. Fred Barge on July 2.1,2

Daniel J.

Murphy, DC, DABCO, is the new vice president, pursuant to a special meeting by the ICA Board of Directors in mid-August. Dr. Murphy will serve for the remainder of Dr. Barge's two-year term, which began in May when he and four other "reform candidates" won the five contested elections within the ICA.3

"Dr. Dan Murphy brings to the ICA leadership circle an extraordinary body of skills and assets," commented ICA President C.J. Mertz, DC. "There is no single individual more highly respected or better known than Dan. I am very excited about the new energy Dan brings to the ICA leadership and proud to have him on ICA's top leadership team."

A 1978 magna cum laude graduate of Western States Chiropractic College, Dr. Murphy has been on the faculty of Life Chiropractic College West since 1982, and is a member of the postgraduate faculty of several other chiropractic colleges. He has built a strong reputation as an expert on spinal trauma, conducting hundreds of seminars on the subject, and has served as an expert witness in defense of chiropractors in various court cases.

Publications in which Dr. Murphy's articles have appeared include Dynamic Chiropractic and the American Journal of Clinical Chiropractic (as a columnist); he has also contributed to the books Motor Vehicle Collision Injuries (Aspen, 1996) and Pediatric Chiropractic (Williams & Wilkins, 1998).

Actively involved in ICA programs for nearly 20 years, Dr. Murphy has been repeatedly recognized for his service on behalf of the association, including its "Chiropractic Educator of the Year" in 1987 and 1991, and "Researcher of the Year" in 1995. He has also been recognized through numerous "Clinical Science Faculty Awards" from Life Chiropractic College West and as the 1997 "Carl S. Cleveland Jr. Educator of the Year" by the International Chiropractors Association of California (ICAC).

"I am very proud to have been elected to this important position in the world's greatest chiropractic organization: the ICA," acknowledged Dr. Murphy. "I am especially conscious of my personal responsibilities to continue the work and perpetuate the vision of my predecessor, Dr. Fred Barge."
